Yeah, me neither but obviously this way of marketing will reach people like us that will download it because we are "curious" as to what the music is really like without having to pay. It's a great idea and a great marketing strategy!

Sweet my 11 year old loves Metalica

Surely this means the end of the world.

A few years ago Metallica went crazy about downloads of their songs, I mean, they've only just gone onto iTunes and agreed to be in the music games.

I remember that!! They have obviously realised that most people obtain music illegally these day's so to give away their live stuff for free may encourage people to buy their studio stuff! Finally labels are beginning to see what we want! :)

You mean '' who want to make MONEY '' lol ..

Them and Madonna showed thier true colours when they tried to close down Napster .. proved they are only in the buisness for £££££££ not the music ...

Nice! Heat + rep. Thanks.

They have hundreds of live shows catalogued now, archived and modern so it's not too much of a hassle for them to spread some free love.

New album comes out on the 12th, this is a little bit of positive PR to stoke a bit of interest in it I guess.

Don't know how long it's been running though.

People talk about Metallica wanting people to stop stealing their music as though Metallica were in the wrong.

Good for them for wanting to stop illegal music downloads.

Oh yeah, awesome, Rockin' man

Mis-belief: there is no 'stealing' music, is called copyright infringement

Also for some reason the music industry thinks that for every single 'illegally' downloaded, they've lost money - not so, they would only lose money if the person downloading would have bought it. I'm not really into music at all and the artist should get rewarded for their effects, but it peeves me off the fact the music industry over here is trying to be like the guys in America. They should push for some sort of flat fee/ tax system instead.

They're waking up to the fact people still want to buy/ pay for their stuff

Metallica have been doing this for years.. they sell copies of their live concerts online and then release the old ones over time for free download. They are well worth downloading and personally i think most of the concerts pre 2002 were alot better than recently anyway,
#20
Thanx! :)
#21

I have to say... I never really liked Metallica before but some of their live stuff is pretty impressive (solo's etc). This marketing trick is pretty good after all! :P

Just curious. Are free music downloads now acceptable in the Freebies section? I remember a few months back posting a free song download here and it then got shifted to Misc if I remember correctly. Have the Mods changed their stance or is still as clear as mud?

Good deal by the way.

Errrrrm, I honestly can't answer that question. If it's free it's free so I'm supprised they complained to you! (there are some real A Holes on here though that think their opinions are right and nobody else is entitled to one - no names mentioned) :?

I told you these guys are all in it for the money .... I have just looked on Playstation Store on my PS3 and Metallica have released a track pack for Guitar Hero 3 ... now all the other artists that have done this the track pack is £3.99 .. But the Metallica track pack is £11.99 .... Greedy Barstools .. :whistling:

Brill, heat added. :) Had the ride the lightning album years ago and have 2 newer albums. Great to get the live shows in-between. More bands should do this sort of thing. I would then buy the newer stuff when it comes out.
#32
I guess they are trying to reward their true fans by giving them free live content but making the mainstream pay extra... Not quite sure why though because surely they should see it the other way round... True fans will pay more and mainstream want free stuff to encourage them to listen?? More proof that the music industry has no idea about business and marketing.
