Free Meal and Drink. NOT A JOKE OR SCAM.

As far as I can see this is NOT a scam of any kind.
This company has been on the web since 2003:-
http://www.whois-search.com/whois/marketpublic.com

Shortened version first :) :-
As soon as you're accepted you'll be sent all the information you need to visit the pub or restaurant.

On the day you select, walk in as a normal consumer, buy food and drink as directed, and enjoy your time.

When you get home, you simply log-in to your members area, complete the online questionnaire, adding useful comments wherever you can, and submit your expenses. We will of course need a receipt, and will pay you shortly after receiving it.

It's as simple as that. There is no formal training, but you will receive guidance on how to conduct visits and what you need to do. We also have a team of people for any query you may have.

Full version:) :-
there is such a thing as a free lunch!
MarketPublic is recruiting consumers - people like you who enjoy eating and drinking out in pubs and restaurants - to join our growing database of over 8000 members.

As a mystery shopper member you will be invited to visit a pub or restaurant, and enjoy a meal or a drink for free.

As a consumer, your view is important to the managers of the places you visit which is why we can make this offer. With our growing database of people all over the UK we are well positioned to offer these services to single pubs and restaurants right through to the national chains.

Our members are really important to us. If you sign-up we will keep you informed of progress and run fun competitions that you can enter!

how it works
Apart from the visit, everything is done on our website. You'll receive emails about visits, log-in to your private member area and accept the visit.

Please sign-up. The form will take just a couple of minutes to complete, and you can decide to leave again at any time. We are only able to accept applications for membership from people aged 18 and over.

I did this a few years back....it was ok..and sounded too good to be true ...FREE FOOOOOOD and DRINK!!!! I thought - take the girlfriend out and have a free meal.....job done!!!

Trouble was...our first visit was a Pub....and it was a rockers pub!!! loud music and full of student rockers!!!..wasnt exactly what i had in mind....we just wanted to get in there and out as soon as possible...we thought maybe this was a one off!!...anyway next we were allocated a pub in an area of Birmingham that i didnt know much about...anyway, pulled up at the place and lets just say it wasnt one one of the most selubrious (sp?) areas!!!...i was too worried about leaving my car outside so we didnt bother going in....!!!

Maybe we just had bad luck....and i dont want to put a dampers on things (sorry!!) But i wouldnt want people signing up thinking they will deffinately be getting some a la carte restaurant and a nice lovely quiet night out with the wife all free of charge...because its not guaranteed.

Yeah...we were probably just unlucky:(

Theres no catch tho to be honest....The questionaires only took about 10 minutes to fill in.

When we did it we were given certain guidelines and tasks.....on the first one we were told to ask for a glass of water and see what reaction you got from the bar staff....also we had to ask the bar person what drinks were on offer that day/week....i think its all to just check that all staff are trained up etc.

If you get decent places then this is a great deal.

Spenspuma , do you have to pay for the meal and then do they send you the money back, just curious as to how that bit works ? !
Thanks dinosteveus by the way
#12
When we didi it we had to pay for it,keep receipts and send them off with the questionaire filled in. They then sent us a cheque back for the items purchased along with details of the next 'consignment' . You cant just order anything and everything...you are given certain instructions like.... Order a main meal that comes with a sauce but ask the waitress when you order that you dont want the sauce......OR you may just get a consignment where you are only buying one drink each - no food....but obviously its not stopping you ordering more..it just means you can only claim for the one.

It's to prevent abuse Angel... so you can't create 2 accounts and just keep upping and upping your own rep for example...

You can give more to dino after you spread it around a bit :)

I'm already a TNS mystery Shopper, which seems to operate slightly differently in that they have contracts for all sorts of companies, not just pubs and restaurants. Plus, once accepted as a TNS Fieldworker, you get to choose which Visit want to apply for by visiting their website and logging on.

It isn't as simple as some are making out ie Free Grub. You have to prepare before you go by reading the information they send you. You have to remember what to ask and who to ask and when. You have to remember what things to look out for and what things to check. You have to listen to what you are told and do specific things, for eg accurately time how long each meal course takes to be delivered and how long your plates take to be cleared away. You do have to order specific things sometimes too.

Point I'm trying to make is, yes it is a fun freebie, but you have to be reliable and accurate and expect to do some work and, above all be discrete and concentrate when you are on a Visit. If you get things wrong or don't follow their instructions then there is a danger you will not be paid, or allowed to conduct further visits.

Like I said, I work for TNS My stery Shopping...but I would expect all Mystery Shopping companies will have the same expectations of you. After all, they are under pressure to provide their clients (the Pub chain for example) with accurate information in a timely manner...and that's why they rely on you to be efficient.

Don't forget too, you are recording how well staff are doing their jobs ultimately, so it has to be taken seriously.
