Worth mentioning that IF (and it is a big if) you run a honest version of windows you can have the full security suite from Microsoft, been running it for a few days and it seems pretty good...

At least stop people getting done by the idiots in PC world spamming their sales crap for Norton.

Deleted kaspersky and installed this yesterday can say its running alot faster but haven't come across any viruses yet to see if its doing what its suppose to do but the reviews are promising.

Thanks for the heads up.

How do you find it, is it unobtrusive yet still effective?

Im used to Symantec AV (NOT Norton, there is a difference!) which has been very good. But microsoft AV must surely integrate nicely with windows eh?

the quick scan found nothing, I let it run a full scan and it found some trojans, so worth doing the full scan...

I am not a microsoft fan by any imagination, but give them credit, a cracking suite
@ burning no slowdown at all, was very pleased

I can confirm, I have been using this a few months now

Its easy to install, unobtrusive, and doesnt load the system

I have used Trend, then several versions of avg (till it got bloated in the last version), then went to Avast, which works wll but you get the daily popups and speech of "virus database updated"

MSE for me!

That's exactly how I find it. Only negatives I've heard are from lifelong Gates haters.

It seems that all anti-virus/ security software is either too aggressive and prone to giving false positives or too lax and prone to ignore real problems. I get the impression that MS Security Essentials falls into the latter category. That said, I’m open to persuasion, so it’s good to get some positive reports.

Thanks, going to uninstall avira for this. Rep and Heated. Hope this delivers

This is by far the best security software ive used. Quick, easy, completely unobtrusive and simple.

The fact that it does anti-spyware stuff as well is a big bonus as well, uses very little cpu resources (compared to other software), and doesn't come up with as many false positives as Symantec/Norton

Edit: Here is a clicky link for anyone

Have used this for a few months and had no probs.
#13
currently got AVG 9, do I have to uninstall this first or can I use both at the same time.

I read that you are not supposed to have more than 1 anti virus product running at the same time
#14
Does anyone know if it conflicts with torrent clients?

Uninstall it, 2 is a bad idea, and slow you down massively

Giving heat for free stuff
#22
Yes its worth mentioning but I don't think it qualifies as a 'deal'
#23
Maybe he should have waited till it's cheaper than free before posting it?
#24
Its a good free package but its not a comprehensive package. I wouldn't recommend it for non IT people as it does not have a firewall neither does it scan im coming emails if you use outlook. Yes and i know windows has a firewall but its not as user friendly as one like Kasperskys offering in my opinion.

Anyway its not actually free you need to have a genuine copy of XP to install it and windows aint free like linux.
#25
I use this. A very good lightweight suite, found a trojan I had on my laptop ages ago. Found it much more lightweight than avg free.
#26
Can someone tell me if this is so good why does Ms$ft not incorporate fixes in the first place to stop there browser being hijacked by virus's??
#27
I think if you install it via ninite it bypasses the validation check :-)
#28
I used the "go to deal" link from this forum and was not able to find the deal.

I found it using the DIRECT LINK as supplied.

http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials

Can someone update the link on the go-to-deal button, to avoid people expiring this.
