O2 Free Wifi Service

I posted this a year ago and its still relevant so i thought i'd share again for all those who missed it.

I'm sure this wont be new to some of you but there may be people out there that do not know about this and could be handy. :)

Fast, free internet, for everyone, and you don’t even have to be an O2 customer to use O2’s free WiFi. Once you’ve signed up, there are no passwords or usernames to enter; you just have to be near one of their many hotspots.

they've also launched a free app which lets you register easier - available for iOS and Android - to make easy to find O2 Wifi hotspots. The app will help you locate hotspots near you and around the country.

If you’ve got an Android device you can also use the app to register for the O2 Wifi service.

Well you are a bad person for accepting income from a charity. What kind of person are you? Heart made of stone perhaps

You have absolutely no idea how charities work, do you? Where do you think all of the grant money goes to?

Ah the irony, I'm at sitting at work on personal iphone 5s on O2, It would be great to download the application but I only have gprs.

Thanks for the information, hopefully this will help somewhat with the rubbish reception available from O2.

Very true, it's a charity and lagging behind the times.

My work doesn't have wifi either. They are not allowed it as it is against regulatory body regulations to have wifi networks.

I hope your being funny. I would be ashamed to work in a place that allows personal devices to connect to the cooperate wifi. That’s a security nightmare waiting to happen. :p

Okay then, you fancy giving me your Full name, address and date of birth?

I'm sure you'll will be reluctant to give this to a stranger. So I don't see why people are not bothered about their data online.

O2 apps requires this permission to use your devices " Photos/Media/Files" , why oh why as it does not need this permission!

Over the years I experienced flight prices (ones on line which fluctuate daily) from airline companiies, hotel web sites... seemed to have very sophisticated tracking and monitoring of customer behaviour and usage, the net effect was that unless I took evasive action the price for hotel would be tens of euros more and flight prices could be hundreds of euros more. So there is not many things in life free after all. Evasive action could be to switch use different computers for researching and for actual ordering, could be to clear off all cache and cookies data from browser. E.g. One "Air France" flight directly on their web site was £50 more which I came to order. I had to go downstairs immediately to another PC to do a new flight price search to get it back to the price it was half an hour ago.

if your worry about your data, then dont have a Gmail account, as google sells your info for marketing, but i bet most of us have one especially if you have an android phone, so i wouldnt really worry about this, THEY will always know but THEY will also get this info through your 3G/4G data so what do you do??? dont use your phone??? dont use the internet?? just chill and surf and delete any crap that MAY come your way. :)

Unlike Gmail and Yahoo mail , Outlook/Hotmail does serve targeted ads based on email contents. Target ads do work as you would be buying or paying more than you would otherwise do on average.

indeed, if the person who runs the network doesn't know how to create a separate isolated LAN/WiFi for visitors, he/she should be fired.

I have four wifi networks at home (eight if you count the 2.4GHz vs 5GHz separately) all with varying degrees of isolation. It's just a matter of buying the right WiFi AP... or knowing which ones can be reflashed with decent firmware.

Do you get visits from the Mafia? Do they ask to use your wifi when they visit? A little bit paranoid if you ask me.

Two SSID's maybe. If I don't know the person well enough to give him/her the guest password then they can use whatever they get from their mobile operator.

Strange that you have four levels of paranoia but you let the same people into your house.

that seems to me to be an excuse. Sure, in many environments (PCI DSS as an example) you can't attach a WiFi AP to the main LAN, but there's no reason to not have a LAN with a WiFi AP which has its own firewall/router and is connected completely outside the corporate firewall. Been there, done that, had it passed by auditors.

Bully for you. But can't you find another source for feeding your ego? It's an irrelevance here.

No need to give those details, Ebay has already done that for us!!!

(Which is why I have now deleted my account with them, wish I had done so before the hackers started sending me spoof emails addressed to me by name, which name they could not have got by any other means).

Aren't there done nasty people here

Charities don't spend loads on things like wifi so stop putting them down moreso those that work for them saying behind the times

Re heart of stone for working for a charity is that people cannot work for nothing.
If you felt like that jack your job in and work for nothing

The charity sector has room fir volunteers but to run a charity and get money housing shelter •ᵉᵗ.ͨ for people requires a business mind and organisation without a structure you cannot do good and inorder to do good you need money
