Had a look and couldnt see any duplicate posting - apologies if so - was at kwik fit and saw they offer FREE engine oil top up - up to 1 ltr - AND you do not have to get another service from them to get this - according to fitter in Grangemouth. FANTASTIC deal I think. instead of paying up to a fiver for oil just go to local Kwik fit :)

You don't have to get any other service from them but they'll do a "safety" check and find a few things wrong that aren't wrong, and try tell you it's illegal to drive away until they fix the brakes. Plus anyone with brains should be able to do this job themselves and if they have a car should already have some oil in the house or kept in the car.

Thank s for ur comment - am a Widow, alone with a 4 yr old, thought his was a nice saving for anyone! This is not a 'safety check' it is a 'can you top up my oil for free' request - happy halloween anewman :)

Edited By: mnew on Oct 31, 2010 18:41: did not fully explain why it is free thanks

Checking oil is part of the driving test these days, it's an easy thing to do even if you're 60 and female. Kwik Fit policy is usually to do a safety check when they see a car, which often leads to bad results. The employees are paid based on the work they do, it's not unknown for them to make work up. "Free" things like this and brake test are easy ways to bring in customers and scam them. See for example http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2010/09/kwik_fit.html

I am sure there are some good ones out there who will just top up your oil for free and wish you good day, but it's just a warning - you can't say you weren't warned if they try pull anything on you now you've read this :)

I had a puncture (fixed for free) Kwik-Fit could have said new tyre and I would have believed them to get them 90 quid. I do have ' a brain' re your first post degree and postgrad thanks - really unpleasant comment - just nice to have a service like this from Kwik fit ' top up my oil please' and it is done. When there is such negativity and nastiness I wonder why people post here - its not for my own benefit. I would not put people down personally. Not a fan of these 'fast fit' centres, but its local I'm a cynic, work and have a wee one & I'm intelligent enough that they wouldnt be able to scam me ..............

Lifting up the bonnet and putting oil in....... er no..... but whatever ....

Better than a seized knackered engine. If people took a few minutes every week to open the bonnet, many breakdowns could be avoided.

My opinion.. if you are busy/have a lot on... ie widow, with family, and work etc - cars are unfortunately low priorities - therefore an OPTION is offers such as this.
Just suggested a FREE deal for someone who works etc and my visit today didn't cost me a penny for a 7 yr old car and no hard sell from staff (thank goodness not to say all are the same). If it saves a few extra minutes from the working day for self to sort car for free its a bonus thats all........:)

The oil is free. It's not about the free check, it's about the free oil. And I was under the impression that kf staff got paid a basic hourly wage plus a bonus based on customer satisfaction based on feedback by a telephone follow up call?

That Kwik-fit HAS to respond to the Watchdog programme on their own website shows some case for concern http://www.kwik-fit.com/watchdog.asp

That may be the case, but it seems the bosses themselves get work related bonuses hence the first link in this post, and may put pressure on the clueless 17 year old kids to get some work done, even if it doesn't need doing.

If you go there and get your free oil etc then all's good, just when they start going on about other things like brakes, exhaust, shock absorbers etc, and work needing doing be prepared to thank them for pointing it out and say you'll come back another day soon as you're busy today - rather than accept what they say point blank and get the work done there and then at their extortionate prices. If you're prepared for the scam then you're ready to deal with it and escape unscathed :D

I know of someone who caught Kwik-fit actually committing criminal damage to their car (scoring brake discs) in order to try and get some work. Many years ago now but shows you the lengths they may go to to get a bit of work.

Yes, it's easy to buy oil & top it up yourself. Yes, Kwikfit may try to recoup the cost by wanting to do extra work (which you can always refuse - you don't have to let them do the safety check), but this deal is for free oil.

I would not normally associate the words Kwik Fit and free. I find it very surprising that a hard sell outfit like Kwit Fit would just dole out free oil, no questions asked, and let people drive off having made no attempt at all to flog something. Never been my experience of KF but good luck to people willing to give it a go.

I wonder if they actually put in the correct oil to match the engine?? Bet they don't. All looks the same to them - like syrup and sticky.
