...The Soho-based artist is to take over the vaults under Waterloo station for an installation inspired by the new Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes film, due out next month.

Visitors will investigate rooms where texts will highlight themes such as paranoia and brutality. There will be no apes, but there will be some identical twins.

Sci-fi fan Firrell, 51, said the story of astronauts who encounter highly developed apes explored issues of prejudice.

He said: “The suspicion and fear of ‘the other’ and what is not like us leads people to be brutal.

“I like the idea of mining popular culture for quite serious content.” But he concedes the he started work on the project with a less noble aim — to finally meet actor James Naughton, who starred in the 1974 TV version of the stories...
