It is NOT free - it's 1p and it shouldn't be given away.

These are only meant to be given away if you buy a laptop / PC over £500...

As such this is a regional deal, at each stores disgression- they should NOT be given away.

The game ("rFactor") is actually worth about £15-£20 btw.

I got 10 from my local one, for 10p (10p with staff discount as the till system sucks) :p

Why should they not be given away?

Because they are specifically sent to stores as promotional materials (there was an Intel comp with a prize to the 2008 F1 Monza GP). After that they are STILL meant to be given away with any PC / Laptop sold over £500.

They shouldn't be given away because they are listed as 1p on the stock system with the amount of stock counted - if you just take them and walk out of the shop without taking it through the till and having it scanned in (and having to pay 1p - nothing can actually be "free" at the till, minimum 1p), then the one you will have taken will still be listed on the stock system. When an audit happens, and the stock is missing (because obviously they will have about 300-600 listed, but none actually left, the discrepancy will have to be sent off to Loss Prevention who won't be happy.

If they are for sale, then why aren't they listed on the website (i've searched for the SKU - appears in the stock system but not on the site).

I work at PC World btw - I actually wanted this game, and spoke to my manager after I heard about it being given away for free via HUKD - Theres nothing come from headoffice saying that they should give them away, only that they are still to be given out with a new PC / Laptop over £500...

In the end I asked if I could have 10 copies (I wanted to buy all of them but he said If I did he would have to ask what I was doing with them) on their own and he let me...

How many laptops have been sold where they weren't given the disc?

Destined for fleabay or do you need a back up or three?

Several have been sold without the CD's because a lot of our staff are incompetent fools. I actually checked today - My store has now given away all the copies we had (and we had 300 about a month ago as I checked).

I got 10 because I am a member of a forum (LFS Forum) where lots of people would like a copy of rFactor for free to try it - so I will been sending them out for free (well, at P&P cost)

Somehow I do not think Loss Prevention are going to be unhappy especially if these are on your inventory at 1p. There will just about always be a discrepancy in a till's float at the end of the day giving a + or - on average of 5p - £2. If these are promo giveaways (freebies when bought with an item) then its also unlikely that they will be classed as stock in the same sense as a full priced PC Game would.
