FREE router for virgin customers

my first post so hope i get this right,
if you are a virgin media customer and want a free router (as seen on the gadget show) *phone 150 from your virgin landline
*get through to the option 'if your thinking of leaving us'
*tell them your going over to sky as they are offering you a free router if you change to them
*also tell them they are offering you the same services at the same price
*ask if they will send you a free router to save all the trouble of changing over
*they will send your router within a week

i have done this twice now once for me and once for my sister, it might not work for everyone but if it saves a few of you a few quid its worth it!
the routers are £40 each for existing customers
only supposed to be free for new customers

good luck!!!!

If you negotiate better then the router could have been bought outright and still quids in

just thought it would help a few people out!
sorry if its not the most spectacular deal on here, but a few of you might get use of it!!

funny, what happened to me - i moved a few months ago and at new address i decided to go for a wireless router. i haven't decided straighaway though and only made up my mind when an engineer came to fix an internet to our new adress. i was told i would have to pay.

until today, there was no charge of £40 for the router. maybe i am considered a new customer because i had to take another 12 months contract.

What spec is the router, are they giving out class N routers yet?
#5
click go to deal and it is the white one at the very top of page, not sure of spec, hubby deals with all the tecnical stuff, sorry!

I detest virgin media with a passion. their customer 'service' is woeful. charged about 48 quid for one.

Virgin give out a free router when you sign up along with one of their modems. Good freebie if you don't already have one though.

I think the routers are Netgear WGR614 ones. The one I have is definitely a Netgear wireless-g (802.11g) 54Mbps cable router..

thanks

last time somebody posted a link here for the free router. i applied and was charged 40 quid. so just be careful.

had 3 free routers off them now for me and my family (2 wireless).

Dunno why people moan on here about being charged for them - moan to VM as most people dont get charged.

It's definitely a Netgear WGR614. I have a hack to flash it with the standard Netgear firmware, if anyone wants it just PM me. Personally I would get the free router, flash it with standard firmware & flog it on Amazon marketplace then put the dosh towards a new DLink DIR-635 N router for 32 quid delivered from a well-known auction site.

you need to go through to the part for customers who are thinking of leaving, i tried it on the normal customer service part and got nowhere, then rang back on the 'if your thinking of leaving us' and got one free! just say you are going to leave and get a free one from sky! also if you get a quote for your exact services from sky, and it works out cheaper, ring virgin and they will price match for 3 months!!

Tried to send you a PM, but your inbox is full :-D

I'd be interested in flashing the router to the stock firmware, anyone know the benefits of doing so? is the VM firmware restrictive of something?

Baffled - it's showing 29% full when I looked. Mods - is there a problem if I post a rapidshare link to the files?

I did this when they had the offer up months ago. It goes through as free, and then Virgin charged me £40 for it later and refused to refund even when I told them that it said free. So I left them and went to O2.

sorry if I sounded critical just saying that having the right idea ( researching real alternatives and putting the ball in VM's court ) they always seem to have offers and packages which are better value (s hame you have to push for them)

Use to be three months of something free now it is a totally revised package

Also I think there latest router (n type) is Dlink DIR 615 ( I use the 635 which is good)

Love this. Can't believe no one has proclaimed "I AM A VIRGIN!!!". Give me a router.

LOL :-D COLD for me sorry.

This isn't a Freebie, it's just a bloomin' blag.

It's just like me posting " Ring Sky and say you're leaving, they might just offer you more channels."

lol, rubbish :p
