if this is based on Let The Right One In (Swedish) ... then it shouldn't be. well then again this is another version, they keep re-making good indie films in Hollywood - why, who knows.

if you haven't already, try catch the original Swedish film (Låt den rätte komma in) - i saw it with English subs. it's good, and was on Jonathan Ross' list on Film 2009. nothing like the poser vampire films, it's quite true to vampire spirit and more down to earth/believable.

I have the Swedish version, as I have many subtitled films, but the fact is most people will not watch films with subs and that isn't going to change. I wish it would but it won't so as long as that's the case then people in ALL countries will keep remaking, or usually retelling (it isn't the same thing), films in their own language. It isn't a Hollywood thing everyone does it.

If it means the people who write these wonderful films get the chance to make the money their work deserves then I'm all for it. One of my favourite films in recent years is "The Girl Who Leapt through Time". It's a Japanese animated movie and is something like the FIFTH filmed version of the book "the girl who ran (dashed) through time. It was also the best version. So there's no law that says new versions of stories are a bad thing. There's another version, live action, of that story out this year too.

got to agree with you re subtitles - if the film is good - subtitles wont affect overall enjoyment

According to reviews the tone of this film is different, with more visceral scenes and horror than the original adaptation. Saying that, it isn't supposed to be a bad thing and people have said that it is as good as the first and stays true to the story (two sides of the same coin).

missed again :( voted hot tho

Saw the original... great film. Remaking it for lazy people who "don't do subtitles" is unlikely to make it a better film.... in fact as the original was so good (and critically acclaimed) it's very likely to be worse.... so what's the point.

Well a lot of people can't read, so they should be able to enjoy the writings of foreigners, too :p

This remake is supposed to be fantastic. If you don't like the film don't watch it.

The original was great, this is supposed to be just as good.

yes more believable (and shall i add, subtly) – living amongst humans.

i'd watch this just for comparism. cant give an honest review of both films until i've actually watched them myself, not just depend on the reviews of others.

If you never listen to other peoples reviews then you must have watched a lot of dross in your time.
