After moving to San Francisco, the middle-aged New Yorker, Harvey Milk, became a Gay Rights activist and city politician. On his third attempt, he was elected to San Francisco's Board of Supervisors in 1977, making him the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in the USA. The following year, both he and the city's mayor, George Moscone, were shot to death by former city supervisor, Dan White, who blamed his former colleagues for denying White's attempt to rescind his resignation from the board.

Mr. Milk had been the subject of several books and the Academy Award-winning documentary feature, The Times of Harvey Milk (1984); but Milk (2008) is the first fictional feature to explore private aspects of the man's personal life and career.

Milk was filmed on location in San Francisco. Many of Mr Milk's real-life surviving friends and former associates participated in the making of this film, several appearing on camera.

Yet another Gay propaganda film, boring.
#15
Thank you! :)

I see, it's cold in some peoples eyes because they are simply homophobic, how very pathetic!

No, people are not homophobic they just don't like having religion or sexual preferences or political agendas preached at them. Everyone knows that people of various religions, women, homosexuals, people of different ethnic backgrounds, or in fact people for virtually every conceivable reason have been unfairly persecuted or discriminated against. We don't want more of the same boring rubbish that is just propaganda saying, look how badly we have been treated.

So I voted cold because it looks like such a naff film that isn't even worth watching for free. There is a whole flood of Gay propaganda movies and it is oh so tiring, just another film trying to follow the success of Broke-back mountain that at least was something new and original. This is just another me too film, designed to cash in on the success of other better movies with gay characters while trying to push the gay rights agenda on to people who quite frankly couldn't care less.

well I could care less, as do alot of others who weren't aware of this part of history even took place or maybe would be interested just to know more. I would assume you think the same about the upcoming nelson mandella movie? or any war movie depicting history? or any type of documentry? Or indeed anything which is based on a true story... or I am guessing... no you wouldn't... just the attack the film because its about a cause that doesn't fit into your likes. well movies aren't made for you as an individual alone, they are for everyone. if you don't like the subject matter, why comment??? just choose to stay at home.

propaganda? don't make me laugh if you don't like the subject matter just choose not to watch but certainly to hunt out the subject matter so you cn make such a stupid statement is just sad :p

*totally agree ^^

gus van sant is an acclaimed quirky director – if not for the subject matter i'd defo be following up on his films since Good Will Hunting, Paris, je t'aime, To Die For, My Own Private Idaho (give me river Pheonix anyday!), Drugstore Cowboy ...
