As far as I'm aware the amount of searches you can do are unlimited, but you can only do 3 searches per minute. If you try to do more than 3 searches within 1 minute you have to wait a minute or two before making more searches.

If you try to do more than 3 searches in 1 minute the web site does tell you "Only 3 searches per minute are allowed. Please wait and try again".

Been using this site for years. As said, it's 3 searches per minute, which is fine really.

Have been opting out of the published electoral register for years but I still appear on here. Whatever happened to privacy.

My thoughts exactly, how can they publish your details if you have opted out from publish register? I'm confused!

Because they publish details from registers going back 13 years, not just the current one. I have been opting out since 2004 but haven't moved house since before then so a search on me still pulls out my current address. It is wrong that they are allowed to do this.

Laws designed by ICO are only fit for showcase as such companies are still allowed to trawl records they buy off from our greedy councils!!!

Snippet from a page on this website (link at very bottom of the site):

If you have recently removed your entry from the current open electoral roll, i.e. within the last six months, you should forward a letter or email from your local council registration office confirming this position. Please note that your council is under no obligation to inform any organisation who has purchased or is processing the record that you have removed consent for at source. Upon changing your mind and removing your entry from the open electoral roll it then becomes your responsibility, as the data subject, to inform others;

So ultimately it is left to poor citizen like us of this country to sort out the mess that ICO, Electoral commission & Councils create. How would we know which of the companies that councils have sold the data off?

If this company is to trust, they offer an option for 'Record Removal' - see here.

They will just suppress the entry so will not appear in live search but won't delete it completely and they're allowed by ICO:(

I don't think they are doing. I looked into this from my own point of view, to check this out, and I checked out a few other people I knew only appeared on the edited (opt-out) lists.

The edited register only became available in 2003, but for years prior to that everything was openly available to websites such as this.

What you're seeing (I think) is information from 2002 and earlier - anything from the edited list for 2003 and later will be unavailable to this website, and that will account also for some of the information appearing to be out of date.

Essentially, if you've opted out since that became possible in 2003 you should find either no information, or outdated information.

but they want even more information about you before they will do this. Driving Licence, Passport, Birth Certificate etc.

There's useful comment above. I really don't like these businesses and how they get their info. This one is based in good old Peter Kay's home town, probably in a two up two down. Operates under several different brand/site names. I found out earlier this year they had some out of date for me as it showed on google. They buy records from the full register and old records before you could opt-out. They're coy on where else they get data from, as they have things not even on the register. My guess is if you enter a competition, you may be unwittingly consenting to your details being sold on.
Their business model is to make money by offering tracing services to track down debtors etc. But cheaper than reputable brands like Kroll. The free searches basically acting as an advert. You have to pay to get access to someone's full details.
I applied for record removal, very reluctantly given all the personal info they require on their form. They removed it. Don't be tempted not to give them all the details, as they'll reject the request otherwise. Basically they have to remove it as even if you had consented in small print to your info being sold, you can withdraw that consent. There's other DPA rules on these issues and you can always complain to the ICO if you have a problem, albeit they're a classically hands off type "regulator". ie won't be keen to get involved.

But the 'removal' of your details, with a company like this with an unknown track record, could well make your data even more valuable to a third party. A list of 'removed' names is probably quite a valuable list. ;)

Are you on the electoral register?
Yes.

There are two Electoral Registers. One is the 'Electoral Register' which lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote in public elections. This register is used for electoral purposes - such as making sure only eligible people can vote - and for other limited purposes specified in law. The personal data in the register must always be processed in line with data-protection legislation.

The other register is known as the 'Open Register'. This version of the register is an extract of the electoral register, but is not used for elections. It can be bought by any person, company or organisation. For example, it is used by businesses and charities to confirm name and address details. The personal data in the register must always be processed in line with data-protection legislation.

Your name and address will be included in the open register unless you ask for them to be removed. Removing your details from the open register would not affect your right to vote.

More information on the two types of register can be found here

So if you opted out of this register by putting an X in the box on the Electoral Registration Form where it states "I don’t want my name and address to be included in the open register", then it is unlikely you will be able to find yourself by doing a search. A copy of a registration form can be downloaded from here

If when doing a search you get no results, try just putting an initial in the first name box, don't put anything in the initial box (second box) and then in the third box put in the surname. Then either type in the town, e.g. Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Liverpool, etc. or select a region. If you still don't get a result leave the town and region boxes empty. Doing this last option will give lots of results for all over the country, so not really good for a common name.

I hope the above helps.

My address on this list is 9 years old, I've moved 3 times since, absolutely incorrect details!!
#24
Old information. Very.
#25
is this legal? Ain't they giving out people's detail without their consent?

Yes. And no.
#27
Very annoying to 'find yourself' there in black and white with your full address!! after ticking the opt out box since the year dot. Not very nice for people 'hiding' from abusive, maniac, out to kill you former spouses or partners.....oO:(

Surely they can't publish peoples full addresses minus the house number for everyone to see if they do a Google search of your name?
