Free Secunia Personal Software Inspector @ Secunia

I've been using this on my home, work & any other pc I could find. Recommend it to all my family, friends & colleagues. It's a MUST HAVE program for all PC users. It's 100% FREE for personal use and works alongside your anti-virus s/ware (whichever that may be - ie NIS, KIS, MSE, AVG etc...) and provides even more protection to your system.

NO anti-virus or security suite provides this level of protection. It gives you greater security knowing that your PC is safe.

I will provide more info in the next post so please bear with me & I will include reviews just to confirm how good it is!

This software is now at version 2 which now can automatically download updates/patches etc...

I'm not sure if you've had problems with Microsoft's security updates (ie after you download your pc is un-useable! and so you need to revert back to an earlier option, PRAY or hope that they will release a working patch) but this sorts them out & ensures only updates which are working with no bugs are installed. I just let it run in the background & it does its own thing protecting my pc! As the new better version is out thought i'd share

THIS IS NOT an anti-virus, spam security suite. Its supposed to run with your internet security suite for added protection. And best of all its FREE

From their site:

Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI) FREE PC Security for Home Users

Used by millions of home users around the world.

The Secunia PSI is a FREE security tool designed to detect vulnerable and out-dated programs and plug-ins which expose your PC to attacks. Attacks exploiting vulnerable programs and plug-ins are rarely blocked by traditional anti-virus and are therefore increasingly "popular" among criminals.

The only solution to block these kind of attacks is to apply security updates, commonly referred to as patches. Patches are offered free-of-charge by most software vendors, however, finding all these patches is a tedious and time consuming task. Secunia PSI automates this and alerts you when your programs and plug-ins require updating to stay secure.

“Secunia PSI won't do away with the need to run a good antivirus program and firewall on your PC. But it provides a solid layer of free protection that no PC should do without”.
PCWorld

“Number one is the Secunia Personal Software Inspector, quite possibly the most useful and important free application you can have running on your Windows machine”.

Yes it will.

This is a cool program. I am a power user and don't run anti virus but I like to keep things up to date anyway and this makes it easy! Gonna keep this, have some heat, never heard of this before but it's great.

Don't worry I can guarantee its brilliant. Check out any online forum or review site & all of them will recommend PSI. Even computer professionals recommend it. It's easy to use & just sits in the background doing its own thing. Doesn't even slow down the computer either. I think its brilliant & a must have for any & all pc users.

Business users are "supposed" to pay for the s/ware as its FREE for non-commercial use only

Sounds good thanks alot will give it a go

Looked good until I read this which is surely BS

Attacks exploiting vulnerable programs and plug-ins are rarely blocked by traditional anti-virus

EDIT: gave it a try anyway and doesnt seem very reliable as it states my office 2007 is patched and up-to-date which I know is wrong as its a pirate version so has never had updates ;)

Works brilliantly on my pc - with Office 2007 (which is legit). It even shows the patch numbers & dates installed etc... it also gives issues with any patches so that you can avoid them for a later patch. Can't fault this product, pls give it a proper testing with all the s/ware you have and I'm sure you'll agree :)

But I have fuly tested it and clearly shows my office suite as being fully up-to-date which I know it isnt as MS wont allow me to patch it for obvious reasons.

Seems OK for a one-off but I wont have it running permanently in memory due to hogging resources.

Thanks for the post anyway as sure some people will find it useful.

As others have said NO, BUT you should never set it to auto download/install (which is the normal recommended setting). As Microsoft has a tendency of messing up your PC with their so-called security updates. Click on download but do not install without user intervention (2nd setting as far as I can recall - not the recommended setting). So now windows update has installed them onto your pc but NOT installed them. Now check the online computer forums like windowssecrets or similar to find out if there are issues with that security patch if so DO NOT install it untill Microsoft fixes the security patch that it was trying to fix/patch in the 1st place, typical microsoft :)

its still a running process which is more relevant than memory load :|

For me it doesn't hog my resources and it protects me especially as it now auto-installs some of the major patches (once approved)

As long as it does it's job which it does I'm happy :)

I get your point and actually have it running now. Just a bit strange how it thinks my MS products are fully OK when I know it hasnt been updated since 2007.

thanks for the deal anyway matey
