The Department for Culture, Media and Sport are giving FREE swimming to millions of people throughout England.
The following is an extract from the dcms web site
"We are giving 20 million people the chance to swim for free in pools the length and breadth of England.
From 1 April 2009, almost 300 local councils are providing swimming free of charge for people aged 60 and over and more than 200 are offering free swimming to those aged 16 and under, too.
Swimming is the countrys most popular sporting activity. The Governments free swimming initiative is an important part of our plans to secure a long-term legacy from London hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games - and to get two million people more active and more healthy.
It is a partnership between the Government, local councils of all political colours, Sport England and swimming's governing body."
Hope this proves to be of value to many of you. I for one have two young kids so will be making the most of this!
Please note -
I understand that some local authorities may charge a very small fee to cover admin (I know of some at £1.50 and some at £2.00) however there are also some that are 100% free and even if you do have to pay the admin fee just think of the savings you will make over the coming years!!!
Please do not vote cold if your local authority is not listed as this deal is in my opinion a fantastic opportunity for those that can make use of it.
You can use the dcms web site to find out if your local authority is participating by going to this web site:http://www.culture.gov.uk/what_we_do/sport/5810.aspx
Alternatively I will try to add the full list broken down by region below.
If your local authority is not listed, it has chosen not to participate in the Governments Free Swimming Programme.
