Accrington Stanley v Torquay United - FREE ADMISSION
Accrington Stanley Football Club are delighted to announce that there will be no admission charge for entry to Saturday's home match against Torquay United, with the aim of attracting a bumper crowd to boost the side in what has been described as the biggest game in the club's history.

Speaking about the decision Stanley Chairman Eric Whalley said "Saturday was obviously disappointing because we came away empty handed from Swindon, however it was always going to be difficult to take something from that game in particular. What made it more frustrating was that the other teams around us all picked up points.

Now our focus turns to Saturday's match against Torquay, the first of five remaining home games this season. There has been some unrest in recent weeks for one reason or another, but now it is essential that we all pull together and unite behind the team. We are all Stanley supporters and we all want what is best for the football club."

Reiterating his comments last week Eric continued Unfortunately we cant afford to follow the Premiership and slash our ticket prices week in week out as our gate revenue is a much higher portion of our turnover without the television millions that go into the game at the top level. However we hope that this gesture will be seen as us making a real effort to draw everyone together in these last couple of months.

It has been a real rollercoaster ride in recent years, fortunately with more ups than downs, however it is at times like these that we must stand together and be strong. The Torquay match is perhaps the biggest ever in our history, as the League Two bottom side visit the Fraser Eagle Stadium, it is essential that we make our home ground a true fortress.

Further details regarding which turnstiles to use etc will be released shortly.

Unusual freebie. Hope it works out for them - can't see it being a quiet game!
H+R added.
Accrington Stanley, Who are they?
My mate Robbie Williams (the Accy player, not the crooner!) plays for them so I'll be going along to give my vocal support.

Take it this doesn't apply to the Torquay fans as well?!
Actually yeah it does apply to torquay fans. not sure of all details etc but the A Stanley chairman was on sky sports news yesterday and he said the invite was for away fans as well!
Would have loved to gone but it is a bit far to travel from Torquay:-( However it is nice to see clubs give something back to the fans.

this is class!!

i live in accrington and to see this is awesome :) basically accy stanley are under investigation for fielding an inelegible player - it was a kid from preston who they thought was a youth player but wasnt. so chances are they're goin to lose 4 points thus putting them well into the relegation battle

all fans are welcome
Ah my home town! I would go to this except that I'm moving house that weekend!

My old school mate is Rob Hayes who's the Chief Exec there so I think he's doing it to pull in the crowds (we've not been getting many)

Accy were lucky to get away with the inelegible player last season too.
:-D Great find this. I remember about 5 seasons ago going to Griffin Park to watch Brentford v Peterborough in a Free Match. I think that game finished 0-0 so hopefully there will be some goals in this one.
Worth it just to sup some tidy Thwaites real ale and fill your ears with the wonderful Accy accent.
Over 20% off Fosters and John Smiths on Saturday
For those who fancy a pint before Saturday's big game the Sports Bar will be offering over 20% off on pints of Fosters and John Smiths up to 2.00pm, priced at £1.80 and £1.60 respectively

This free offer just gets better and better.......
