What a wonderful gesture from the News of the World.

This xmas the News of the World have joined up with supermarket giant Tesco to give £25 worth of presents for EVERY CHILD who has a parent on the front line
WHAT TO DO:
Just email to [email protected]:

THE name of the serving member of the family.

THE number, age and gender of his/her children.

THE name of the serving member's home unit.

It's as simple as that! The presents will then be dropped off at military bases around the country.

This justifies the war in Iraq/Afghanistan?

Brilliant way to show support, there should be more of this or service members and their families IMO.

Absolutly Outstanding Good Will Gesture And Very Kind Of Tesco!

Whilst I don't support some of the current operations of our armed forces per se, and nor do I believe that they are "all heroes" by any stretch of the imagination, it's nothing to do with the kids, and it's a nice gesture.

It is a good gesture. But the title should be modified, as this is not for children with parents in the forces. It is for children with parents serving in the forces that are on active (front line) service aborad.
#6
I think this is a fantastic gesture - our troops seem to get a lot of stick for doing their job when we should ALL be supporting them. Not wanting to stray too off topic, but while I don't agree at all with the war these guys(and girls) are simply doing their job and don't make the decisions.

Hate the government if you want, don't hate on our couragous troops.

I understand people think these children deserve some special care and support this offer for that reason. However I cannot agree with this method of support. So often support for the individual soldiers being sent out is seen as support for the "war effort". I bet what these children want is parents home for Christmas and for good, not a cheap publicity stunt by a paper that supports the war.

If any large organisation like this wants to do something for these children then they should get in touch with the ministry of defence and do it quietly through them without advertising it.

I am voting cold this is not a deal these children or families should have to apply for.

In other words about three people will take advantage of it and everyone else will think how wonderful the News of the Screws and that megacorp Tesco are - what a cheap way to get good publicity!

Probably not, there's plenty of us....anyone from Boro who wants a decent job usually joins the forces!!! lol

Thats good news, even if it is a publicity stunt, it's the little ones who benefit so I'm all for it... I'm certainly going to stick it on a few of the military bulletin boards... Thankfully I don't qualify this year... although I'm going home for Xmas.. which is much more dangerous!!!!

The families are NOT having to APPLY,its all on Military Records,GOOD ON THEM ALL I Say! As a former soldier, its a token of appreciation and gratitude.Everyone has such short memories of the terrorist attrocities both home and abroad, don,t blame the soldiers,BLAME the bad guys!

Completely patronizing! sign up for it but just as it is a freebie!
My husband joined knowing that he would have to fight any war, if he supported it or not.
When I get the present it will be sent directly to a local charity (which shouldn't have to exist in our country) and a child with less can enjoy Xmas.
We do not need presents! the forces need to believe they are fighting for our saftey.

HAHA!!! Sounds about right, hubbys in army were both from Boro he works with a lass from Boro also!

Agree even if it is publicity stunt atleast they are doing something for the forces unlike the other supermarkets! Dont qualify this yr but will next yr when hubbys on tour over xmas.
Its a great idea and although many dont agree with the war, atleast support what they do, and what others do to lend a helping hand. Children will be happy with this present and will put a smile on their face so why vote cold??

its not about oil at all afgans have about enough oil to power 6 tanks, its easy for people to say they should be left alone but that would just make the terrorists stronger and allow them to buy more powerful weapons from the profits of the poppy fields people will then say why didn't we do something earlier. peple like you are good at saying what goverments shouldn't be doing about terrorism but fail to give any credible alternative!!. please prove me wrong and give an alternative

Do you not realise they are fighting the terrorists in Afgan? The war started off with the nuclear bombs (personally i think they were looking for something to go to war about and thats what came into their heads). If the troops werent out in Afgan now fighting, there wouldve probs of been more terrorist attacks happening, Iraq they got rid of saddam and now Iraq is no real threat thanks to our soldiers hard work, and unfortunatly some had to give their lives for this. Its the government that should be giving something not a supermarket, but what use are the government??? So good on tesco for supporting and bringing awareness back to the public of what our troops are doing for our countries.

I would give a credible thought through alternative but why when Karl Marx did it over 150 years ago with the communist manifesto, in response to war, poverty, oppression and terrorism etc in 1848 ish. It's been done since of course. Try reading Rosa Luxemburgs writings on war. Not sure its on topic. But hey if you are that interested in other alternatives let me know.

I watched that and im sure the conclusion about it being bombed by own people was unown?? There wasnt enough evidence to prve one way or another on it. What people are saying is that respect should be given to the soldiers for what they are doing, not every soldier agrees with the wars but they go because thats the job they do.

I think this is RIDICULOUS, sorry but why do these kids deserve £25 worth of toys, just because a parent is serving in the army. What about the other children, in care, in foster homes, who dont have any parents. What a waste of money.
