marktq1marktq1

just got this email from talktalk If you just can't wait, from January we're offering you our 24Meg Turbo Boost, FREE by visiting talktalk.co.uk/myaccount and clicking 'manage my services'.

If you already have our Turbo Boost, you don't need to do anything and this will start to show on your January bill as free
I know talktalk get a lot of stick but if you are with them this is great news, I have had no probs with them myself recently found from various speedchecks I am getting up to 50meg download speeds which was a nice surprice especially living out in the sticks
drops down to 10 to 12 meg nightime

Talk talk is an awful ISP.

However, it's cheap and if you are just a casual user. Recommended.

TalkTalk have been very good for me. The only problem I had turned out to be outside the house which BT had to fix for free.

How do I check if my line is eligible for Turbo Boost?

The Turbo Boost is available only if your exchange has been unbundled on the TalkTalk network (LLU) and you will benefit from it only if you can achieve download speeds of higher than 8MB. You must also have an ADSL2-compatible router.

To check the maximum possible download speed your line can handle, please carry out a broadband speed test. If your download speed is more than 8MB, the Turbo Boost may benefit you. We can activate it on your account within 48 hours.

Alternatively, you can sign in to My Account and check the availability of the Turbo Boost in the Manage My Services area. There you'll find your current download speed and whether the Turbo Boost will benefit you. You can also activate the Turbo Boost in My Account. It will take up to 48 hours to be activated.

(Just tested mine it came out at 3.9MB so not for me alas)

I wouldn't touch Talk Talk with the proverbial barge pole. Very poor customer services. I switched to them from BT and didn't have a phone line for 6 months because of their amateurish ways.

Just sank in that it starts on January 1st - I'm eligible but would cost £4.00 per month at present so roll on 2010!! Thanks for the tip

Also grabbed the free Caller Display while I was looking at my account - Thanks rob585

After we eventually got connected (about 2 years ago) we've had no problems.

I'm with Talktalk, terrible... looking to switch once contract runs out. Constantly cutting off landline and broadband and when I ring them from my mobile am told that they were unable to fix the problem until I rung in and reported it. Then take 24 hours to fix it. Then do it all over again a couple of months later. Their customer services sucks too. Hate em hate em hate em >:(

Nearly all isp's are the same now when it comes to having a problem. I have a had a few probs with talk talk bur they were resolved easily using the talktalk user forums.

Wish I could get the speed boost but only get 2.1 meg on an 8meg connection and I am lucky to have that. My exchange is enabled for 24 meg too but I am just too far away and I doubt it will ever be any better than what I have now.

Shame too as I am only 7 miles from Leeds center. No chance of cable getting here either by the look of it as they dont seem to be expanding the network any further:x

Thanks for the info. cant see the option for turbo boost though in manage my services, will this show from Jan?

I've just done it on mine fine. You have to be on my talk talk or a newer package, ones before that can't use the boosts.

I'm 7 miles north of Leeds but get the full 8 meg from talk talk on my little exchange.

Lucky you. I am about 3 miles from our exchange and its always been rubbish. though a friend of ours is another 2 miles from it and gets around 200k:shock:

    21st century network my a s s:whistling:

Have found them terrific. Albeit a bit slow to get set up. However the best service I have had from an ISP and they actually answer the phone within about 5 minutes. Half the price of my previous supplier. Thanks to this posting I have now got the free caller display - why it's not there in the first place I don't understand. I found it very annoying for the past 3 months.

No problems here with TT, im on 8meg connection and it always maxes out pretty much 24/7

If anyone is having problems with speed, join there forums and ask to have your profile tweeked they will do that for you, i was getting about 6meg before they tweeked my profile.

Well i am an it pro and was a bit hesatant to go with talk talk but i was willing to give them a go as they are the only service in my area that suppilies 24 meg service.
To be honist they were super and it was all up and running within 5 days.
To top this their support on the members forums is the best support as their team is online and will answer any problems on the forums.

To start with i was at 15 meg sync and with the help of the support team i had them lower my snr level to 6 fastpath and now i get 22meg.
Also their is nice infomation and custom firmware for the netgears to allow for further snr tweaking.
It is never slow for me, and i have never been without a internet service, i do download alot with newsgroups and always get 22meg constant download speed.

Overall the service on the forums is excellent and at a cheap price for a 24meg service.

And now they are cutting the speed boost i will be saving £4 a month excellent.

    Hot For me
