If you have a valid subscription to Symantec Norton Internet Security, you can upgrade to the latest and greatest 2010 release for free.

If the link doesn't work, click on Trialware in the column on the left of the Symantec website.

Register for a free trial and download Norton Internet Security 2010. When you install it, enter the key for your older version and you'll find it works with this realease so that you have the latest, greatest protection for the remainder of your subscription.

For those of you who haven't tried Norton Internet Security for a couple of years, just register for the free trial and you'll be pleasantly surprised. It is no longer the bloated performance sapping can of rancid treacle that it was before the 2009 version. I used to hate it, but I'm pleased to be able to recommend it to family and friends now that it is so vastly improved.

Thanks. I've updated the OP link, but it still doesn't seem to work.

I think that's because if you place a link in the deal submit page, sometimes HUKD translates it to their own affiliate link, which in this case appears to be broken.

I have also checked the prices for Norton Security 2009.
The cheapest I have found is eBay at a tenner (inc delivery) for 3 licences.

Or

£11.37 (inc delivery) at kikatek.com for 1 licence

I have checked my XP system, and 2010 seems to using 20mb of RAM when idle.
This went up to a maximum 135mb, when running a full system scan.

I'm joking :p I just know that irrespective of how good 2009 and 2010 are, people will still say it's gotta be awful as it's from Symantec.

Does 2010 still have a service it hides some RAM in, though? 360v3 certainly did...

Got 3 months left on my 2009 so i will give it a go. I have to say I liked the older Norton Internet Security but the 2009 does work nicely, prehaps its cos i have a powerful machine though, but never had any problems with it scanning as i am doing other things like play games or watch films at the same time

this was posted about a week or two ago. when the upgrade was downloaded it was in german!

this is the link to a free upgrade to a full version of nis 2010, not a trial version but only if you already have a licensed copy of 2009. but, for a few users, it was a german download. don't know why this happened to some people.
