I heard about this through a friend; South Birmingham NHS Trust and Change For Life have an arrangement where you phone a freephone number, answer a couple of questions and you are sent 12 x vouchers for plan of your choice. Choices are weightwatchers, slimming world or Rosemary Conley.

Although the link states you *need* to see your GP, I did not, I simply rang the number, told them I had been told about by my nurse, they asked which GP surgery, my name and address. She then asked me if i had a preference to which scheme and told me where my most local clubs were, they then sent me vouchers.

As a plus size person I do need to lose weight so I am eligible for the scheme, I have also worked all my adult life and dont claim any benefits too (just in case anyone wants to have a dig at me about sponging).

I am sure it goes without saying that you should only apply if you need to attend or feel you will get some good advice that will help you on your wellness path. After your 12 weeks you can get ongoing support from the Lighten up team too.

Looking on google it looks like a few other regions are endorsing the scheme, so might be worth checking on google or with your GP if your catchment area is also eligible.

South Birmingham Only call: 0800 5999880

Slimming world have teamed up with the NHS country wide so most Drs now offer this service,,though you are supposed to have a BMI of 30 or over.

watching the programme the other night Cambridge Weight Plan is better as it does work out cheaper, you get alot of support and it is more of a long-term solution and its cheaper and you maintain the weight loss!!! I did it in 2008 lost 2.5 stone in 3 months and wish i did it sooner !! :) x

Its not a long term solution at all - eating / drinking shakes cannot be sustained and eventually the weight comes back on. WW / Slimming World etc are a long term solution - providing you treat it as a lifestyle change and continue it through, you still get to eat normal food - its down to portion control. Most of all you actually chew food, so your gums / teeth won't lose their strength!!!!

Good deal for those that can get it I suppose
