All in the same room I have my quad-core PC running Firefox, my PS3 with built-in browser, Linux also on PS3 running Firefox, iPhone running Safari, so do I really need a browser on the WII too?

What?! So you once had to pay for an Opera browser? I don't own a Wii, I own a DS and I can understand buying the DS browser for the hardware, but I never thought they charged for it on the Wii. Get it quick before they resume ripping you off!

In other news, Microsoft now are offering Internet Explorer for free! If you already have IE, you can download a free promotional Windows 7 wallpaper. Thanks M$!

In other news, there still isn't any internet browser provided for the Xbox 360, free or otherwise  .

And which part of they are going to make it free for the rest of the Wii's lifecycle were you unable to understand?

Well it should be free. I don't understand why they'd ever have to charge for it.

Two types of people

Those that can see the benifit of a browser on the console and those that cant.

Microsoft are the latter and most of their consumers are the former.

cool, i paid 500 points for it years back, so ill be glad of the free NES game - but i dont have a way to connect to my wii wifi channels, as my broadband is just mobile broadband so i need an ethernet connection, something my wii doesnt have.

hopfully ill have a proper wifi router soon, but when does the free game offer end? or would it be easier to take my wii to my mums and do it there?

The answer to all those questions is 'I dont know' although I imagine they will know everyone who has paid for the browser so will probably offer you the NES games whenever you go on.

If you have a laptop with a wifi connection then you can use the dongle and the laptop to get the wii on the internet.

Overpriced for being free if you ask me.

Also bought this for 500points over a year ago, utter cack!
Horrible horrible interface. I've used it twice since.
Rather go through to the PC and go online that way.

Will go on and download the free game though that'll probably be of more use.

I also agree.

I needed a browser on the Wii due to the setup at home, sometimes it would be impossible to set up the Sony Vaio laptop and if I wanted to review a Wii game before buying from the Wii shop online, it was easier to use the Opera browser on the Wii.

Crap as it is.

I had to pay 500 points, always have resented that, now they are compensating me.

Trouble is, I have just added 5000 Wii points, and so far not spent more than 1000 points, as most stuff they sell is CRAP.

I already have the good stuff like the 3 FPS games, Final Fantasy and Soduko, etc, and recently Zelda.

The world obviously revolves around you Linda - If you saw it once was free it will always be free in your mind. Bless your blinkered little head.

The truth is that the they upgraded the browser from the original free one when they started charging money for it. So the people who bought it actually had a few more bells and whistles than the first vanilla version.

I guess you could argue that there was some need to pay the people at Opera for their hard work on creating the browser - which I think isn't bad considering the context of the simple family friendly machine. But the main down point about it is the resolution outputting from the Wii itself. They text is blurry and you constantly have to keep zooming in to read normal webpages. Nintendo really need to make a HD Wii. If they continue down the path of ignorance, the Wii will fade away.

i thought this was free anyway but i was wrong its free if you have a nintendo dsi so thanks for letting us no it is free, as normally its £3.50

Hmm.

Basically, they released a trial version a few years back, then later released a free upgrade to make it a full version for a limited time. Once this time was up, Nintendo were charging 500 points, this was from 2007 until now. So this HAS been previously available for free, but years ago for a limited time. Now it's been upgraded from Flash 9 to Flash Lite so it should be improved. I've been using the Internet Channel browser for years with no restrictions and have never paid anything.
