My college (ACCROSS) is on the list, so it's looking good for me. I shall have to investigate further. Thanks for the tip, ibzzzz.

I saw this ages ago, but how do you 'create an account'?
I always come across this:

Verify Account
To complete your registration, an administrator must first have created an account for you. Please enter your account identifier below.

Username* Request an account or support

Emailed my unis IT support and they didn't have a clue.

I keep telling myself I need to get that NUS card...

Universities have to sign up for Dreamspark Premium and it costs them money. Not all Uni's do.

Dreamspark is nothing new, this has been available to students and universities for a long time

Unfortunately I am no longer a student but have a uni email :(
#9
The University has to be a part of the scheme. I think my uni I work for pays about £300 a year for each faculty.
#10
Got an account but can't find windows 8. Where am I supposed to look? Where is the search bar?
#11
I'm confused - Win8 is only listed when I search for my university. My existing DreamSpark account doesn't work with that webstore, and it tells me an admin needs to have already set up an account for me. What do I do, should I contact my uni's computing service? Surely they won't manually create accounts for every student who wants it...
#12
I think you misread, my uni is on there but its only to download dreamspark not windows 8?

as theres an option for windows 8- dreamspark premium
#13
I've contacted my university helpdesk for more information. It is a very confusing process.
#14
It may be that only certain subjects qualify, the STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

At my college one of the IT lecturers takes on that responsibility. Ask your head of department about getting signed up to it. We just gave the lecturer our personal email address and Academic Alliance got in touch soon after.

Had w8 pro installed for about a month now.

Right, so I can get this via my uni, but I have no idea which one to chose.

EDIT: Also need to register, but I need some username.

Hello guys is this fake? or real? i'm confused :(
#22
Is Windows 8 worth an upgrade? I left Uni 2 years ago and I got Windows 7 via Dreamspark. Still using now, and wondered if it's all that. Especially if the upgrade can be obtained free (obviously I know a few students still who can sort me out).
#23
I don't know which one to download there are 10 windows 8's to choose from ?!?!
#24
when i was a student i had to ask for my account to be activated so i could download windows 7 pro and other applications, windows 2008 r2 server and sql server... basically things that were relevant to my course, though back then it was msdnaa (thats academic alliance... or something similar anyway) basically the IT guys had to activate all the users on the system that were enrolled for an IT course, as my partner could register but couldnt see the same items i could... this might help

this is so stupid.. 194 heat for this and 54 for windows server 2012 that is actually accessible to ALL students rather than just ones who are lucky enough to have a uni with a paid subscription?
#27
which version is better, professional or symbol?

I don't know which one to download there are 10 windows 8's to choose from ?!?!

I downloaded "Microsoft Windows 8 Professional 64-bit (English-Great Britain) - DreamSpark - Download"

And it's been working fine for the last month.
#29
thank you , very helpful
#30
thanks ;)
#31
It has my Uni, but it's specific to Computer Sciences. I'm assuming it's also specific IT departments for other institutions? So it's not for every student/faculty/staff.
#32
how do i download windows 8? i have created a account and everything but when i go to student download products i cant seem to find windows 8 in Developer & Designer Tools, Servers & Applications or in Training & Certification plzz someone help....
#33
does this mean the licence only works for 2 years? Or just two years you can access the code if you've not wrote it down?

Extended Access Guarantee (24 months) - Included
24 months of access to your download and/or key. This does not extend the duration of time-limited licenses (if applicable).
#34
Ignore that - just read the T&C's and looks like you can use it still.

Quoted terms

SUBSCRIPTION AGREEMENT - MICROSOFT DREAMSPARK STUDENT

This is a subscription agreement (“agreement”) between Microsoft Corporation (or based on where you live, one of its affiliates) and you for the Microsoft DreamSpark student offering (“Student Subscription”). Please read it. For purposes of this agreement the term “software” applies to the software provided to you under the Student Subscription, which includes the media on which you received it, if any.

1. DEFINITION OF YOU OR YOUR. "You" or “your” means a person enrolled in and attending courses that lead to academic credit or certification through an educational institution.

2.TERMS FOR STUDENT SUBSCRIPTION.
a.Student Subscription. Subject to the terms of this agreement, the Student Subscription provides subscription to access software. Microsoft may change the software or other offerings that it makes available under the Student Subscription at any time without prior notice to you.
b.End of Student Status. If you no longer qualify for the Student Subscription (by failing to meet the definition of "you" above), then your Student Subscription will terminate; however, you may continue to use the software you obtained prior to termination of your student status subject to the terms of this agreement.
c.Termination. Microsoft may terminate the entire DreamSpark program or your specific Student Subscription at any time without prior notice to you for any reason or no reason.

3. STUDENT SUBSCRIPTION RIGHTS.
a.Student Subscription Software. Except for terms that explicitly state that they override these terms, the terms of this agreement supersede and control over any conflicting license terms you may encounter in the software, even if installation of the software requires you to “accept” a separate end user license agreement or if you are otherwise obligated to accept other terms.
b.Installation and Use Rights. You may install and use on your devices no more than two copies of each of the software offerings made available to you through the Student Subscription, but only (a) to support your education; (b) in non-commercial research; or (c) to design, develop, test, and demonstrate software programs for the above purposes. The Student Subscription and software are personal to you. You may not permit others to access the software using your Student Subscription. You may not transfer your Student Subscription.
c.Restrictions. You may not use the software provided as part of the Student Subscription::
•for commercial purposes (except as permitted under Section 3(d); or
•to develop or maintain your own administrative or IT systems.

d.No commercial use. If you use the Student Subscription software to create software programs, you may only commercially use or distribute them upon the purchase of appropriate commercial license(s) for the software. You may however submit software programs that you create using the Student Subscription software to Microsoft app stores, including for revenue.
e.Other terms. If your principal place of residence is in Germany, the following provision applies:
•Using Windows Desktop Operating Systems. Your Student Subscription includes certain Windows desktop operating system products. You may not install any such product on any computer that is not already licensed to run a full version of a Windows operating system on it. Therefore, a valid Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for a Windows operating system must first be affixed to any such computer.

4. NOT FOR RESALE SOFTWARE. You may not resell the software provided as part of the Student Subscription.

5. SUPPORT SERVICES. Software and other services provided under the Student Subscription are provided “as is,” we do not provide support services for them.

6. ENTIRE AGREEMENT. This agreement, and the terms for software, supplements, updates, Internet-based services and support services that you use, are the entire agreement for the software and support services.

7. APPLICABLE LAW.

a.United States. If you acquired the Student Subscription in the United States, Washington state law governs the interpretation of this agreement and applies to claims for breach of it, regardless of conflict of laws principles. The laws of the state where you live govern all other claims, including claims under state consumer protection laws, unfair competition laws, and in tort.
b. Outside the United States. If you live in any other country, the laws of that country apply.
8. LEGAL EFFECT. This agreement describes certain legal rights. You may have other rights under the laws of your country. This agreement does not change your rights under the laws of your country if the laws of your country do not permit it to do so.

9. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY. The Student Subscription is provided “as-is.” You bear the risk of using/participating in it. Microsoft gives no express warranties, guarantees or conditions. You may have additional consumer rights under your local laws which this agreement cannot change. To the extent permitted under your local laws, Microsoft excludes the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

10. LIMITATION ON AND EXCLUSION OF REMEDIES AND DAMAGES. You can recover from Microsoft and its suppliers only direct damages up to U.S. $5.00. You cannot recover any other damages, including consequential, lost profits, special, indirect or incidental damages.

This limitation applies to
•anything related to the software, services, content (including code) on third party Internet sites, or third party programs; and
•claims for breach of contract, breach of warranty, guarantee or condition, strict liability, negligence, or other tort to the extent permitted by applicable law.

It also applies even if Microsoft knew or should have known about the possibility of the damages. The above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you because your country may not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental, consequential or other damages.

For questions about DreamSpark and/or the Student Subscription, please see https://www.dreamspark.com/ContactUs.aspx
