This is not particular to Evesham. Microsoft have launched an 'Express Upgrade' scheme for purchasers of new PCs so that they can upgrade from XP to Vista free of charge when the latter is released.

You'd have to be mad to upgrade to Vista as soon as it's released. Far better to wait 12 months until they fixed most of the major bugs and given the other companies a chance to have written some stable drivers for their products.

And there's always a few applications that won't work with the new OS. They're usually the most useful.

Bring back DOS and X-Tree Gold! :-D

i am currently testing the Vista and my advice is unless you have the lastests spec top of the range computer you should stay well away from it. I have Athlon 64bit 3500+ 1GB ram SATA2 drive etc. which passes the optimal test for vista (except for my graphics card). With only the operating system installed it takes over 1min30 - 2min to boot up. where as if i have just XP installed it takes around 30secs to boot up. also the RC version has lots of bugs as of now, i cant even install my modem drivers and it is probs one of the most popular ones in england (sagem [email protected] 800) so i cant register it online and tell microsoft. But dont get me wrong, in a few years time this OS will be very good.

i am not the only one then kk-cheung
I've had more problems with vesta, i tried the upgrade from xp and its not compitable with few software mainly nero express so i uninstalled it, after that it did not recognize my modem (sagem [email protected] 800) and i couldnt connect to the internet.
so i needed to go back to XP which you must format the system as you cant do it as upgrade...
stick with XP..

i've never heard of a sagem modem, i'd say usr would be the most popular, or they used to

anyway, the real reason for this post is that Dell list the offer period as purchasing a qualifiying pc between during the promotion period (October 26, 2006 - March 15, 2007)

Reaps

its the one used by talktalk

What do you need that Ultimate has but Premium hasn't? Ultimate is a rip off and nobody will go for Vista Basic.

Also you can get a free upgrade to Vista Premium by buying a copy of Windows Media Center Edition OEM for around £80!

RC2 is basicly Ultimate. and is hardely different to RTM thus hardely different to the public final soon to be released.
use RC2. save money plus you will be using Vista perfectly legaly.
as you can install Vista every 180days for another 180days 10 times per serial key and Microsoft provides you with a maximum of 2 serial keys per email address. so thats 20x180days legally using a near enough final version of Vista for free. so thats 3600days or nearly 10 years for free.
and quite a lot of users reformat their windows xp based PCs every 180days anyway so there is no difference to them!

Wow, I think this has just been spammed!!! Should I vote this one hot??
#12
Jeeesuss yea... someone screwed that good and proper!
Guessing they don't have late night moderators around here then!
#13
Don't look like it. I have noticed it's been funny all night, I thought they were maybe doing some maintanence, they may well have been but as you can see what they have done is left the original posters thread open so anyone can edit it!!!!

And obviously they have!!! I wonder if all threads are open to attack or just this one?

I will go in and delete all the crap now.
#14
Just remembered we can't alter the content in origianl posts, only add to it so I can't delete them.

Means you cant just buy XP and hope to upgrade to Vista free. You need to have a PC and receipt.
