its freecycle and it is wonderful i've been a member for about 6 years
BUT
please don't just take - i see sooo many wanted posts these days, and much fewer offers,
it's about community sharing and recycling not just somewhere for people to collect free things.

Its not Freecycle! which is american based, Freegle is English, if you want a site that dictates to you from the US then join Freecycle. FREEGLE all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It IS Freecycle! It was called Freecycle for YEARS in the UK before it was renamed Freegle last year.

What would be the point of joining the US one??

nowadays it seems that it is scrounger city, especially with the hilarious posts asking 'Has any one got a spare iPhone or Laptop'

I used to give away a fair bit but all my messages have turned to 'Wanted' rather than offered. So my unwanted or unneeded items go to charity instead. The British Heart Foundation now take electricals and the others will take everything else

bingosbro. You been drinking loopy juice. A site that dictates to you. Is it part of an alien conspiracy then? or do you think it's the CIA running Freecycle? Oh panic, panic.I joined Freecycle now I'm being dictated to. Should I take back the leaf-blower someone kindly gave me in case it starts giving me orders from the shed?

Yeah you need to offer things in return for taking things, there are far too many wanted posts these days, some one asked for a car on my local one, so funny.

It's just life! People will always 'Want' more things other then 'Offer'... But the idea is great and I don't see any point in shaming it. I always try to put stuff to freecycle/freegle before I give it to a charity because there is a good chance that it will actually be used other then resold (and I far prefer the first). My local group (Perthshire) is very good and active (and mostly with common sense ;) ). I don't think you should be too judgmental about it, every area is different.
Why is is this post cold? So what that many of us know about it? There are plenty of those who don't! Hot from me!

I joined freegle cos I have loads of stuff I need to get rid of and I can't drive. However what annoys me is not the people who post wanted ads, maybe they genuinely need and can't afford something. It's the people who come and collect it cos it's free then put it back on months later with 'got from fellow freegler but never used' why go and get it then? why not leave it for someone who does have a use for it?

This site is great - but i've yet to get a free, sofa/table&chairs/garden bench/dvd player etc etc etc all things i've got free from freecycle - yes i'm in the UK that's what it was called when i got these things. Since it's become freegle i've mostly been giving and again haven't fridge/freezer/garden shed etc that i've given away free on here.
It's not stupid - it's a valid way to recycle and get things you need for free. Sadly it's more people wanting for the sake of wanting, rather than needed now.
