vSkippers from all over the UK are having a significant effect on unnecessary landfill by encouraging the use of virtual skips. Since it's conception in 2004, vSkips has attracted thousands of individuals who are actively supporting the use of virtual skips to recycle and reuse their unwanted items. The idea is simple - Instead of hiring a real skip you upload your items to a virtual skip for other people to search and claim.

Seems more complicated than freecycle. Also, prompts you to become part of a network, facebook style. Personally, I prefer the more informal and very efficient aspect of freecycle.

You still need to subscribe to freecycle and all this ask you for is you name and postcode, I had to make a yahoo id to join freecycle and email moderators, this is pretty much instant.

I'd argue that it's better if everyone just knows the one site :whistling:

Will have a look at this though cheers

You should make it easier to sign up, I had to 1st create a Freecycle sign in then goto my region then email my region moderator then set up a Yahoo ID to join, This was alot easier and took less time.
#13
i like this site but don't like freecyle as you got to join each group

I'm rubbish with computers and don't really want another email address. Was going to join Freecycle but finally found it a lot of fuss. Not too happy that it asked me to join Yahoo

COMPLETELY SUPPORT - IT'S SO STUPID THAT YOU HAVE TO JOIN EACH GROUP INDIVIDUALLY!

I agree with you all on these points and I'm a moderator at that, these are all valid points but unfortunately each local group is governed by national and international freecycle guides.

Freecycle looks good, but why is it so hard to register ??
#22
freecycle is a joke. great if you can actually join. I emailed the little hitler on the glasgow one with my reasons to join( was having a bit of clear out after decorating) and they knocked me back so all the stuff got chucked.

I'll have a look at this for future reference.

Hello! Frodsham/Runcorn here... :-D

I've read through this thread and yes there are some very valid points which have already been addressed.
So you'll all be happy to know Freecycle is changing!
We're breaking away from Yahoo Groups (Not all groups are making the change just yet)
The new platform has been made specifically for Freecycle and is called MyFreecycle (Currently in beta stage)

This should be easier to sign up for (Just sign up once then one-click join each group local to you)
Should be easier to use (Instead of having to read each groups guidelines for posting rules, these are all preset and easy to use)

Happy Freecycling
