Some freesat viewers many not be aware but there are a few extra free to air channels that can be picked up using their existing freesat enabled TV or satellite box.

If you are confident enough to manually tune channels, the following link shows all the current channels and frequencies needed to tune into them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_free-to-air_channels_at_28°E

Not all the channels are that popular but some people might find something they find useful or interesting.

There is nothing worth watching that isn't already on freesat. Cold

If its incomplete why don't YOU add it? Wikipedia only exists due to the people that collaborate or share information

Let's just say that there are 15 'hot' channels compared to the awful 2 that I currently get. Heat for that!

Proper "hot" channels or just babestation dross?

Something worth pointing out is that not every freeview channel is available in every area, no matter how much you tune - we had to go to freeview.co.uk themselves to find out that a few channels were not 'broadcast' to our region as yet.
It's worth using their postcode checker before wasting your time looking for something you won't get.

This is Freesat, not Freeview. I had that problem when looking into Freeview, I could only get 2 out of the 5 'groups' of channels so went for Freesat.

If your house already has a Sky dish you can just plug in a Sky box (you can often pick them up free in freecycle/freegle, or cheaply in secondhand shops or online on ebay/gumtree/etc.).

Sky do a freestanding non-recording HD set-top box (any Sky box will do, but you can't record Sky without a contract, so the PVR hard disk models don't give you any more).

tattooed skanks with stupid ugly fake **** looking bored
honestly don't understand it myself :|
not when we all have internet..

edit: haven't used freesat for a little while, but i think i'm correct in saying that PickTV isn't on there by default
that's one you can go manually tune to pick up (ha) as an extra that does actually occasionally have stuff on worth watching

I don't believe you get full EPG info with these freshly tuned in channels (Now/Next may be available though), plus there's still some Freeview channels not on satellite. My Humax sat PVR has the facility to tune in to these channels, but I seem to remember it has a big snag doing so (may lose all future recording schedules, which would be a pain to input back in manually).

Stil can't believe how clunky the standard Freesat UI is (Humax layer a few things on top, but it's still poor). The lack of use of the coloured remote buttons is nothing short of criminal, especially when the UI presents an extra level of menus more than you expect for common actions.

You do get both of Sky's 'free' channels Pick and Challenge by default now but not the +1 versions.

If you have a Manhattan Freesat box you can add all the non-standard channels within the menu. Just click on 'Add non-Freesat channels' somewhere in the menu.

I did this, scrolled through all the garbage listed on the Wikipedia page, then immediately restored to factory settings :) Not for me, but maybe some of the foreign channels might be handy for some.

Shame, there's no Sky Sports.

XBMC. Haven't paid for skysports in years

I used to add channels manually to my Sky box as well, most notably years ago when ITV HD was not officially on the Sky platform. Its quite easy to do, and no one should be worried about trying it. IIRC, on a Sky box, you will not be able to record/pause any channels added manually.

I would love to know about this too, as the sky sports packages are a total rip off.

Download Kodi (new name for XBMC) and install. Then follow this vide for the addons

I am currently renting and the landlord has a skybox but almost every channel I would watch on freeview asks me to pay to watch it.

Even if I manually tune the frequencies, will I still get asked this or will it somehow unlock and be viewable?

Thanks.

I've always found SKY annoying. I took out a contract a couple of years ago as they gave me a plus box that allowed me to pause/rewind and record programs. But when I ended the contract, they disabled that function. I consider that a rip off as it does not cost them anything to pause/rewind or record anything on a box in my living room.

When I last looked, most channels that are free on freeview should be viewable free on freesat from Sky without a subscription.
Only problem is that sky insist on displaying all the channels that need subscription.

If you want to use the current sky box you can ask them for a freesat from sky card but I think they charge £20-£25 but I could be wrong. Just do a google to be sure.

Personally I chose to get a cheap freesat box allows me to pause/rewind and record for free.
You just have to unplug your sky box and plug in the freesat box. Same dish and cables so not complex.
I find it outrageous that any company can charge people to pause/rewind and record TV when it's a free feature.
Then again, most sports were free to watch on terrestrial TV before they came along.

Many thanks for that very useful tip. Have some well deserved heat.

It's a shame there is no such option for freeview but at least with the internet there are so many channels we can stream.

Thanks, I don't need sky now lol
