Go into google maps, select the directions icon, then after it says start end point, select an end point and after it calculates there is an option to use google navigation

Lost in London? Late in Leicester? Misplaced in Manchester? There'll be no more tears if you're an Android user with no sense of direction, because Google's free sat-nav software, Google Maps Navigation, is now available in the UK.

After a stealthy overnight update to phones running version 1.6 or later of Google's Android operating system, Google Maps Navigation appeared this morning on phones such as the Google Nexus One, Motorola Milestone and Acer Liquid . Unfortunately, HTC Hero users are left out in the cold until the networks can squeeze out an update to its Android 1.5 OS.

I have no idea about other phones not mentioned.

The G2 Touch is a T-Mobile-branded HTC Hero, and as such is still on Android 1.5. Android 2.1 is expected soon, i.e. shortly after it appears for the HTC Hero.

It works fine on my HTC Desire! result, just saved me a co-pilot purchase!
#12
works fine on my desire and I have uninstalled the google maps brut version i was using with no problems.
#13
looks good, wish i could use it on my hero
#14
Updating now, thanks :)
#15
Works on my Desire - for anybody struggling to find it, it's not a new app, it's been enabled in existing versions of Maps. Try searching for a location, and now you should get a blue arrow next to the place marker which allows you to either show directions or navigate (which is the new functionality).

There was an update published a few days ago, I don't know if you need that. If you don't get the navigation option make sure you've got the latest version.

Sweet, thx OP.

Working on my Desire. The voice is terrible though. Kind of wish they'd got someone to record "turn left, turn right" etc. Instead we get a stock 'computer voice' which guesses the road names etc. pronouncing 'Rd.' (as is on most Roads) as "errd" gets really grating. Although it can be muted!!

Just need a good car cradle/charger now...... :)

I have removed the existing version and installed the new version on my desire and now it is working ok.

Cheers guys :)

Might not be that soon. This update has been promised for a while and looks like it has been delayed again:

I emailed HTC the other day about the rollout of 2.1 on the Hero, they told me it'll be going on from the end of April so hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer.
