The Guardian has just launched it's iPad edition and it's free to subscribe for the next three months. So you'll get the next 86 or so editions for free but make sure that you turn off auto-renew unless you want to continue to subscribe. I've downloaded it today and my next sub payment would be 13th January 2012.

Now I know there are plenty of people who don't like this particular paper... if you do feel the need to unload any repressed vitriol against the Guardian... this probably isn't the place for it - but you're going to anyway so bring it on!!!

Apparently HUKD is a gathering place for the readership of the journalistic axis of evil, compromising the Sun, Daily Fail and Torygraph.

The Guardian is not racist, xenophobic, sexist or homophobic and is thus not suitable or satisfying reading material for the demagogues that read the aforementioned offerings.

For anyone who wants an excellent, award-winning publication that doesn't believe the country's ills are down to muslims, gays, single-mums, Europe, immigrants, the Welfare State or Labour, then by all means, subscribe to the Guardian.

I bet all of the people knocking the Guardian in this thread have never even read it. Let me remind you all that nobody would even have know about the hacking scandal were it not for the Guardian, the politicians were in Murdoch's pocket and no other newspaper thought it right to attack one of their own.

Anyway back on topic, great offer. If it's not to your taste then ignore the offer, its a free informative newspaper for 3 months.

Ironically, the Guardian readership are roughly the only people in this country who know what communism actual is.

Good afternoon Nick Griffin. Shouldn't you be organizing your latest rally?

Calling people socialists as a form of insult does not constitute a particular intelligence or imagination on your part. Considering it was your beloved Capitalistic Free Market system that has caused the abominable destruction of the world's finances, a misguided adventure departed upon by Manic Maggie 20 years ago and shamefully continued by New Labour, sticking your nose in the air and reciting ad nauseum The Fail and Torygraphs favourite right-wing talking points is a rather hollow argument on your part.

Put it this way, I'd rather be a Champagne Socialist than a Coca-Cola Capitalist.

Am I allowed to post about the deal, or does it have to be a rant for/against the paper? Let's see...

Do you get anything from the app that you wouldn't be able to get from just visiting the Guardian website (which is always free)?

Usual Leftie drivel. Translate criticism - usually complete with a ream of statistics - as 'racism', 'homophobia', 'misogyny', etc., because you cannot provide a cogent counter argument. Bury your head in the sand, like a good little loony, and scream 'racism, racism, racism', etc. Yawn.

Most terrorism is the product of those who practice Islam - a fact. None of the papers you mentioned have ever branded all the practitioners of Islam as terrorists, except in your mind. You need to read what isn't written, to justify your ill-informed views.

There is equality and then there are privileges in the name of 'equality'. A gay man can open a hotel, exclusively for gay men, but a straight man cannot open a hotel for straight men. This is 'equality'. Pointing out this fact is not 'homophobia'. Ironically, it is a cry for equality.

The proven-beyond-all-doubt best way of raising children is as part of a two-parent family. Not all single-parents fail their children, but a far, far higher proportion do, than those who have a partner, to whom they are married.
    centreforsocialjustice.org.uk/

You confuse 'Europe' - a continent - with the 'European Union' - a political entity, as Europhiles always do. Our membership of the E.U. has seen the wholesale destruction of British democracy. You can be a European country and trade freely, without being a member of the E.U., as Switzerland proves. You can be a partial member and trade freely, as Norway proves. Both countries are wealthier and have higher standards of living than we do, by the way. The U.S. trades freely with the E.U. and yet isn't a European country. Strange that.
    openeurope.org.uk/med…135

In the last 10 years of labour, 5.2 million arrived and 2 million, born and raised here, fled. The greatest movement, in to and out of the U.K., in decades, at least. Countless independent reports have shown not a single national economic benefit to this. Those who left, partially as a result of overcrowding and inability to find a decent school, have taken their tax-payer funded education and training with them, so we won't ever see a return on our investment.

The Welfare State was created (by Labour, ironically) to help those who were incapable of helping themselves, not to park people on benefits for the rest of their lives.

Every Labour govt nearly bankrupts the country. The last incarnation of Labour also wrecked the education system, wasted £100s billions and worsened every societal problem. For doubling govt spending (and taxation), between 1997 and 2010, there is precious little to show for it.

I'm a Guardian reader but the Telegraph is pretty good for an alternative viewpoint (their online rolling blogs on hacking and the like have been excellent). Pity so many of their readers tend to the view that every single problem in the country is the fault of the EU/Unions/Immigration/Benefit Scroungers (delete as appropriate).

I decided a few months back to buck up my ideas and start reading something "proper". This coincided with me getting an iPad 2 to be honest. So, I started with The Times. Jesus that was dry stuff. Always found myself drawn to The Guardian's site.

I downloaded the app as soon as I spotted it and all I can say is its very good so far. Can't complain for free and if it keeps up and improves in one or two areas I'll happily pay the £10 a month rate. There are a number of reasons why I'll pay a month fee which I cant be arsed explaining to those who don't "get it". Needless to say, it would be value for money for me.

    Heat added!

Brilliant to the both of you!!

Methinks it should be - why would you want to read this rubbish...

...and the answer is, as @sits69 observes, only if you like a different sort of page 3. oO ...

...and I would add that it gets read by the people who appreciate joined up thinking.

I would also ask @marcusherbert what he considers to be a non-rubbish newspaper?

Just a word of caution - if this is the smae offer that I was sent then the smallprint in is a 3 year sign up after the trial period. I know that the plan is to cancel before the charges start, however, if u mis the deadline the 3 year tie in is excessive in my opnion.

Where did you read this? It's £9.99 a month after trial end - no mention of any tie in period at all... it would seem very unlikely.

I always thought the Guardian was just stories about Princess Diana and Cricket.

It's basically the Daily Mail for people who are actually middle class and not pillocks pretending to middle class and educated (no I don't read it, I read The Sun as them birds in briefs certainly put the world to rights ).
