or switch to the mobile version of the page at the bottom and add to home page. A lot better than an rss feeder.

Funnily enough, I found this last night as well and was gonna mention it on feedback.

Its awful. Its pointless, and even at free its pointless getting it in my opinion.

Good on you for posting though.

Download Pro RSS, or the free version of said app, and you can achieve the exact same thing, but with other RSS feeds as well.

Utterly pointless - though an HUKD app would be really nice at some point. Needs more effort.

it's aawwwwwwful!!! Pointless app!

Maybe for some of the more advanced users, this seems a bit too basic, I respect that. But some of us would rather have a simple app that does what it needs to and no more. :)

Exactly how I access:thumbsup:

It may be a bit naff, but thats the nice thing about things like this, someone one will think "Thats crap I will make a better App"
#9
Someone should make an app like a Twitter one, were it shows you the deals (i.e tweets) and then you can submit your own and include a picture what you've taken.. if your out and about in a shop.

Give me a break guys I'm working on the improved version should be with you in a couple of weeks.

It was an initial version based on the standard RSS feed and designed to be very simple. The new version uses the new API provided by the this site and will be a significant improvement.

Bear with me....

What would be the point when the mobile version of the site is just about perfect as it is. Actually looks more like an app than this horror.
#12
I agree with all people above.

http://m.hotukdeals.com is the best
#13
Yeah, I tried this - went with RSS Runner in the end - an absolutely great free RSS app for the iPod Touch and iPhone
#14
Well keep your eyes peeled for the next version and see what what you think of that. By the sounds of it, it can only be an improvement.

Here's something I knocked up which you might find useful.
If you navigate to this link on your iphone/touch and hit the + button and add it to your homescreen, you'll get a nice HUKD icon and an instant link to the mobile version of the site.
:)

If anyone wants to take a look and give a bit of feedback on version 1.2 of my app screen shots can be found at

http://www.moonboom.com/Home/apps-2/hotukdeals-rss

An upgrade should be available in a week or two once Apple have approved it.

If you are a big fan of the mobile site then you will probably still hate it but hey let me know what you think......

Thing is paul... I might be going insane, but I'm sure at one point you were charging 59p for this heap of junk. Can you confirm or deny that?

As a free app, you can't complain - but come on now - it was a little pointless. I genuinely hope the API version will be infinitely more useful. Please allow me to add a few RSS feeds from the site as well. I use 2 on firefox live bookmarks.

Yep initially I thought try it at 59p  but then I quickly dropped it to free for the competition. Yep you can do what it does with a RSS reader or use the mobile version but at the time it was written before the API had been announced and I know plenty of people who have an iPhone but no idea what an RSS feed is. So that's why I wrote the initial version, yep it is really basic.

V1.2 uses the API so it can now get the deal, temperature, category etc. How much this actually adds to the usefulness who knows. It looks prettier and at the end of the day I'm sure it will come down to matter of preference. I agree the mobile version does so much you wondered what the thinking behind launching an API and competition was.

Expect increased functionality as the API improves. For v1.2 I was tempted to add a search, however using the current API it would mean downloading lots of data and trawling through it on the iPhone. Now I could do that but I expect the next version of the API will provide a search option so it can be done at the server end. So hence I held back.

Thanks for the suggestion of adding RSS feeds from the site, I'll take that on board and see what I can do for v1.3.

Finally Apple have reviewed and approved v1.2 of my iPhone App after nearly 3 weeks. Those who have already downloaded the old version should be able to upgrade. Big interface improvements, a few bits still need improving but that will come in the next version.

If you haven't downloaded it check it can be found from http://www.hotukdeals.com/rest-api/widgets

Thanks for that, more features are on there way.

Cheers.

I've re-installed it. Didn't like the first version. It just gave me a massive list of all current items (Not interested in the price drop on a tin of beans etc).

This version is an improvement, but would prefer to select which category's I want displaying and have it keep that view. Don't like how the category wheel is always displayed.
#23
getting better but I still prefer the mobile version of the site for the time being
#24
The next version will allow you choose which categories and forums you want displayed. Plus a few other features.

The category picker will be going, it is too large and can't be resized which is a real limitation by Apple.

Cheers for the feedback.

Perfect for you maybe.

There was a thread a little while ago when the mobile version of the site came about and many people said it didn't work on their phone. Now we have yet more methods for iPhone users to view the page.

What about people who DON'T have an iPhone? :whistling:

Not knocking this app at all btw it would just be nice if the mobile site was fixed properly so it worked on more than just the most expensive phone on the market ;-)

Don't forget it works on the iPod Touch as well which is what I am using to develop it but I take your point.

Wil have to try this when My Ipod Touch 8GB arrives. Which I won from a competition from here :) through checkyouroil/www.performancepr.com. Was informed last Thursday (6th)

Needs an 'All' tab to show the latest ones, not just sectioned ones.
#29
like all others, mobile version is the best.

I noticed this about a month ago, I'm guessing it's fan made! Very basic. I prefer the mobile version of the site using Safari. Or if I have more patience/time, just visit the actual site on Safari.

Might be worth another look, if you only tried the old version.

Thanks for making me notice an update! =]

Still, I prefer looking at it via Safari, but definitely an improvement!
