On August 26, 2014 HP announced a worldwide voluntary recall and replacement program in cooperation with various government regulatory agencies, for affected AC power cords distributed worldwide with HP and Compaq notebook and mini notebook computers (including mobile thin clients and mobile workstations), as well as with AC adapters provided with accessories such as docking stations, sold from September 2010 through June 2012.

HP customers affected by this program will be eligible to receive a replacement AC power cord for each verified, recalled AC power cord at no cost.

HP believes that certain power cords shipped with notebook PC products and AC adapter accessories may pose a risk of a fire and burn hazard to customers. We are taking this action as part of our commitment to provide the highest quality of service to our notebook customers.

Note: Not all HP and Compaq notebook and mini notebook PCs were sold with an affected power cord. Please validate the power cord shipped with your notebook PC or purchased with an accessory, or as a spare.

thanks, I have an affected laptop, I always thought it was a coincidence, but one of the prongs of the AC adapter is burnt out and and the battery life has been ruined from 2 hours to 30 seconds, do you think they will be willing to replace the battery as well as it seems to be on a related topic? :|

Unlikely we have had replacements at work and they ship the power cord only NOT the adapter, so I don't think they will replace the battery as the adapter is not being replaced by this program.

in the original recall notice it was suggested it was the adaptor but as Gavin said its only actual the cable with the plug on that they are replacing.

Mine bust a couple of years ago so I binned the transformer but kept the lead. It wont let me claim as obviously I cannot put the information about the transformer in.

Cheers OP. Just noticed this after I'd mistakenly fallen upon the HP recall on thier website.
Ordered replacement...unfortunately DHL have delivered it "somewhere else". Now I see it is only the cord...NOT the adaptor (the expensive bit).
Just bought a replacement battery hoping that would fix my daughter's HP Probook but it hasn't. It still keeps randomly switching off (overheating?). Makes a slight "wheeze" sound as it switches off.
Think it's a new laptop I'll need to invest in....bummer!

Yip...just got it today...by "Royal" Mail (not DHL as tracked). Had to sign for it....weird as it must only cost about £2...it IS just the cord NOT the A/C Adapter (_;)

You don't need information about the "transformer", it asks for details of the laptop (model & serial number).

Nope, didn't for me. Only asks for the CT number if you don't have (or can't read) the white label on your power cord.
