It's a free web-based service that allows users to create chains of simple conditional statements, called applets. Hope that helps. :p

What kind of stuff can this do then for a lay person

IFTTT can be used to connect services and objects linked together via, for example, the internet. You create little programmes (applets) which perform a function when triggered by something else - If This Then That.

eg
If the temperature falls below zero then turn the heating up.

Or it could be used to trigger an event when an email is received.

There are loads of scenarios and it is really useful.

I was waiting for this integration since october, but now I have it, I can't really see the point. The Alexa IFTTT app is so limited. You can't have her say anything as a result. You an only do triggers, which you can do natively withing Alexa anyway. All my WeMo, LIFX, etc devices can already be controlled via Alexa naively. The only device I have that Alexa doesnt support natively yet in uk is Harmony Hub, but it works in US and UK support is coming any day now. You can do it through Yonomi though, which seems faster than IFTTT.

I was looking forward to doing cool things like having Alexa say things depending on situations and events etc Sadly none of that seems possible.

The phone abilities dont work outside of US. The LIFX scene commands don't work in UK, and honeslty I'm a little disappointed with this nearly 3 month wait for IFTTT integration.

Thanks for the phone number tip. I saw it said U.S. only, so U had assumed it would not work. Thank you.
