Free parking up to 2 hours at Kingsway Shopping Centre car park (previously £2). The car park is normally over three quarters empty. Good alternative to the cramped sometimes chaotic free parking at Cwmbran (I probably just need to go round the other side and use a car park other than the Llewellyn one).
Also, if you look at the pile of leaflets in the shopping centre (turn left as you exit the car park and they're placed on a cart type thing) apparently there's an offer of a free drink too valid until 30/11/10 at Boswells.
Free regular cappuccino, caffe latte, filter coffee, mocha, tea, hot chocolate, pepsi, 7up, ice blast (excluded iced coffees, smoothies, shakes, and bottles).
Present your ticket to the person behind the counter before ordering the drink to stamp your ticket. Redeem before exiting the car park. I can't say for certain the drink offer is still on, I didn't try to claim a free drink (already buzzed up on coffee elsewhere), as it may have been withdrawn when the free parking came on, but the leaflets are still there and clearly state an end date of 30/11, plus the website still refers to the deal. However the leaflets and the website still provide the old parking prices.
Other parking prices are also reduced.
Another idea for something free to do while you're there includes visiting the Museum and Art Gallery.
TBH I can't imagine anyone would spend longer than 2 hours in Newport unless they were working there :D
