Kwik-Fit Tyre Tracking Check (free)

AV1985AV1985

Drove past Kwik-Fit and they had a billboard to say that they were doing a free tracking check, good if your car doesn't go in a totally straight line. This was in Rugby, don't know if it's countrywide.

.......And then they'll find your brakes need doing, there's a hole in the exhaust and a tyre needs changing. A few years ago, just for fun, I went into Kwikfit with a car that passed its MOT that day - quess what happened! You don't get owt for nowt!

The amount of speed bumps about the place (in Sheffield anyway) there would be no doubt that most peoples tracking needs doing. Dunno if I drive crazy but I have to get my done at least once every 6 months and I only do about 2000 miles a year (but I do have non-standard modified wheels and tires). The checking would be free; but the tracking not.

You can check if your tracking needs doing by realising if its pulling to one side or not - find a straight bit of road while no1 is around and let go of the steering wheel while its centre. If it does anything else but keep your steering wheel centre and you in a straight line then it needs doing. Its cheaper in the long run to get it done as uneven wear and tear on tires will cost you more and keep you less safe. But don't use quick-fit or a car dealership. You really shouldn't be paying more than £40.00 in VAT for this service which takes about 15 mins.

Steer clear of these jokers, they will try and change your tyers if they don't need changing !!

Poorly adjusted tracking is only 1 factor that would make a car pull to one side. It could be caused by a worn suspension joint, steering joint, shock absorber or just down to a camber in the road or side wind. Therefore I wouldn't use this as method of diagnosis.

If you check your tyres regularly an indication that the tracking is out of adjustment would be if the front tyres are wearing more, both on the inside or both on the out side.

They are proper cowboys. A free test just isn't worth it. Better to go to your local garage.

Don't you guys even like freebies?

Just get them checked. If they feel dodgy, go away, shop around for something cheaper, noone can force you to buy anything!!!

You guys are so ungrateful, next time I find a top deal or freebie I'm just going to keep it to myself.

Mine wear on the inside, nowt wrong with the tracking. It's the camber that's out and that's not adjustable (unless you buy specialist top mounts):p

dont keep it to yourself, but whats the point of taking it somewhere thats going to tell you you have things that need fixing and then walk away!! you dont gain anything by having it checked if your going to walk away anyways!

leave this company well alone, you'l end up with a huge bill for stuff you don't need! use your local garage who will be more helpful and probably charge you less in the long run.kwik fit removed my brakes and disc's and got rid of them without my permisson and left me stranded and pregnant, nice company not!!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

not a good test as the car may still veer left/right due to the camber of the road as well

Listen people - the problem with British people is that they feel obligated to do things - leave a tip in a restaurant even if service was ****, say sorry to somebody even though THEY bumped into you... etc.

It's a free tyre checking service. If you all want to be pressured into buying Kwik Fit's goods after this then that is your prerogative.

AV1985 - don't feel put off by the people on here - of course this whole site is about hotness and others shouldn't feel obligated to vote hot if they don't recommend - but give the guy a break...

Kwik Fit also match prices if you make them an offer. I've had no problems in any of their branches....

Maybe it's just Epsom and Derby that have rubbish branches!

in my experience kwikfit used to sell you stuff you didnt need, but now they seem to have improved and more often than not they are your local garage, ie nearer than any one else. Last two times they've been great with me, no ripoffs, even do quality servicing at a decent price

I'll give my experience , or rather my girlfriends. Its a mixed bag really.

My girlfriends exhaust was blowing and on the way home from uni pretty much fell off. She made it home and then phoned up a few places. It was a friday morning and everywhere said they would not do it until about wednesday next week at earlier, apart from Quik fit who fitted her in that day and looked at the exhaust, then showed her that it was falling about so she knew she wasn't being taken for a ride. £150 for a new back system incl. fitting and VAT. She was happy.

the guy told her that for a few weeks it'll be loud as its a new exhaust, i was a bit sceptical but he's the mechanic i thought. After a month it was still as loud so we took it to a local quik fit near uni and the guy looked at it and said the bracket they fitted was a bit too flimsy and they had fitted a beefier one and didn't charge us. she was Happy again.

Then my GF had the car serviced by my brother, a mechanic as well and he found they had bodged the exhaust on, and it wasn't the right one for the car. Because it wasn't right the brackets didn't match up to the car so they cut them off and bodged one on!

Because of this my brother had to weld a new one on to sort it out as it would have gone again in due course and she had to buy new springs as they didn't fit them with the exhaust - another £30.

Just annoying as that was 2 different quik fit garages that bodged things up on 2 occasions. Reduced our faith in quik fit somewhat, they might have helped her out in a fix but long term she still paying out
