Please note:
A (UK.)GameSpot.com account will be required in order to take advantage of this offer.

Although the offer makes reference to the US, I have just gained a Redemption Code for the PS3 & if I had enough space on my hard drive (sigh) I would now be downloading the 1-2 players / HDTV screen resolution: 720p / 2343 MB trial version of the game.

Cool - I'm going to give it a bash tonight (been downloading all morning!)

Off to Laserquest now - my lad is going to a Birthday Party, but I have been told I can play too :D:{

Zap zap.
I had a quick play, before turning off to watch the Grand prix and it looks great, plays well.
Not sure I'm going to buy because this whole DLC is worrying me, I think I read that there will be 5 DLC packs although I maybe wrong.

Just think I'm going to wait for the bundle.

Presumably the whole game would be on your hard drive?? Or would they send you the disc once released? Really good price for the download, scorching hot if they send a disc (doubt it)

Key question (to those who are playing it): Is it any good?
#14
Johnboy, there is no blu-ray version of this game. You download it, if you purchase then you download an unlock key which will be a small download (I'm guessing a few kilobytes).

So yes the whole game is on your hard drive.
Regarding whether it is good, well the reviews have been encouraging.

Its download only? Am surprised at that - just thinking of all the old dears willing to pay £40 to get it for their grandkids at xmas
#16
Yes. Download only.
#17
Well it took me 26 minutes to do the first level which is the only level accessible in the demo/unpaid version.
There are 14 levels so I guess this is a 6 or 7 hour game.

Very impressed by it, looks great although the puzzles aren't very difficult but they should get harder given that this is the first level.
#18
This title I wasn't looking forward to from the various promotional trailers I have watched to date but, like Andy@ said, it is impressive. I would have preferred either the animated (cel-shading style) cut scenes (like this video game generation's first take on the Prince of Persia), or the Computer-Generated Imaginary cut scenes, to be the actual visuals of the full game-play, but the game-play's isometric view is a lot better than I thought it was going to be.

I'm going to go back to it again later this weekend with a little bit more of a critical eye & if it is still entertaining me then I may well stump up the £9.99 to unlock the full game.

BFN,

fp.

PS. Keeley Hawes returns as the voice of Lara too! :)

Did you apply for a European or a US key from Gamespot (they are doing both)?

Somebody has just voted cold, but you are very welcome.

Yes, I used my European PlayStation Network account.

If you had typed the code incorrectly then you would either see a different title to download, or you would have been advised the code was wrong prior to being able to request the download.

Can you elaborate on "it did not work"?

PS. Keeley Hawes returns as the voice of Lara too! :)

I thought I recognised her voice. She is one of the more pleasant sounds in the game, I did find the in-game music rather annoying which is most unlike Tomb Raider games...I always liked the music score of the series especially the first one.
Actually I have Tomb Raider Anniversary on my little PSP and it has an option whereby you can just listen to certain music extracts from the game. Nice feature and one which I'm sad to say I have used.

Absolutely beautiful piece ... (no not Keeley) ... Linky

Your comment about the audio is amusing, Andy@'.

According to a previously-available "podcast" [ http://forums.eidosgames.com/LCGoLpodcasts/Podcast2_Audio.mp3 ] (the second for "...Guardian of Light"), it would seem that the music in this game has been re-used from previous "Tomb Raider" outings:

"Tomb Raider: Legend"
"Tomb Raider: Anniversary"
"Tomb Raider: Underworld"

(Composed by Troels Brun Folmann & Colin O'Malley).

:)

Well, I just played the demo, and it was enough to convince me to buy the full game. The second level is much bigger than the first, with loads of enemies and collectables. It demonstrates that the first level was quite simple in comparison - really just a training level. Second level took me just over half an hour, and I didn't manage to find all the hidden bits and bobs.

Definately value for money @ £10 I reckon. Hopefully be able to play online co-op once they enable it too :)

FYI:
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light plunders PS3, Steam on Sep. 28, five DLC packs in 2010 (Joystiq.com)
by Christopher Grant on Aug 6th 2010 3:58PM
---
Though Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is making its debut as part of Microsoft's high-profile (and heavily co-marketed) Summer of Arcade program, that doesn't mean Lara isn't destined for other platforms. Square Enix today announced that GoL will be released on both PlayStation Network and Steam on September 28th for the same $15 asking price. But Lara's plans for 2010 don't stop there.

While we agree DLC is a pretty strange acronym for Downloadable Content, we're going to disagree with Crystal Dynamics General Manager Darrell Gallagher when he insists, "DLC for us means Downloadable Lara Croft." Don't get us wrong, we're on board for Guardian of Light in a big way (though our initial enthusiasm has certainly been blunted with today's news that online co-op will suffer a one-month delay for Xbox owners). We simply worry that five DLC packs over three months is going to cause a consumer revolt, fueled by cries of "that should've been in the game."

The first three packs are straight-up expansions, meaning fresh puzzles and "new areas" to visit. The latter two are "playable character packs" which will let you swap out Lara and Totec throughout the entire campaign for "some other well-known videogame characters." Our guess: Hitman's Agent 47 ... or perhaps another trigger-happy hero from Square's catalog, Vincent from Final Fantasy VII.

Thanks FP. So it really amounts to 3 "useful" packs.
As I have oodles of games at the moment, and the fact that online co-op isn't available, I will probably wait for a bundle or a price reduction.

So many games...I still haven't finished Trine and there is a monkey to catch on some Island somewhere or so I've heard.

Do you mean the titles in the "Tomb Raider" franchise where you play in a third-person view compared to the isometric viewpoint of this "Lara Croft" (series debut)?

Or were you referring to Ms Croft's physical attributes with your titillating comment?

I posted some images of bygone Lara actresses/models in early 2007 at 1upGamers.com:

The Adventure Starts Again...

Do you, erm, fancy the chances of Kim Kardashian as the (titular) character of Lara in the forthcoming "Tomb Raider" movie revival ("reboot")?

http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/images/kim-kardashian-lara-croft.jpg

Or, perhaps, one of the previous models?...

The "outgoing" model, Alison Carroll [ http://www.alisoncarroll.org.uk ], was criminally under-used in personal appearances after the first few weeks of her appointment.

Of course, some of us may believe there has only ever been one personification of Lara...

...and, I suspect, it isn't this model:

...Apart from Rhona Mitra ("Lara" at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 1997, & still one of my favourites)...

There is more than a passing resemblance between Angelina Jolie & Megan Fox...
