Spotify was involved in an attack whereby all usernames/passwords/address details from people beta testing it was stolen.

They use a new algorithm now, but the fact they were compromised in the first place would worry me! Just thought I'd let people know.

Shame, cos it is a great little app!

Spotify is awesome!

spotify is the best!!!!
and tbh, their standard, no pay one is great so why anyone would feel the need to shell out a tenner a month for it is beyond me!
so, don't buy a subscription and even if its compromised again, they won't have anything more than your name.

Absolutely awesome!!

It's responses like that which stop people posting in the first place. Even if it has been posted before, it's not the end of the world. Heat added to negate this persons coldness.

Had so much press I thought everyone would have at least known about it but people I know have passed it by.
Listening to it now.

I have been using it since beta, absolutely superb, I don't bother with iTunes anymore, the adverts are not even that annoying, I think they will start to bump the adverts up soon though to encourage people to upgrade.

Last.fm is also great. It probably doesn't have the volume of music on there but being able to sync your iPod with it and get a selection of recommended artists is super cool.
#14
Thanks for this, never heard of it til now, its brilliant!

Well Spotify actually scrobbles to Last.fm so you can still track stats and get recommendations, but unlike last.fm you can listen to what you want, when you want as many times as you want. Far superior.

And re the leak - 20 -30 people had their names and email addresses exposed - not exactly the leak of the century.

Spotify is great, but there is one thing about it....

It uses a Peer-2-Peer distribution network (as well as a normal one), so that whenever you play a song, it saves the song to your harddrive in an encypted manner. Then, when other people play the same song, you computer will send part of the file to them. This is fine, except it can mean that your harddrive gets clogged up with a bunch of unreadable files.

What i'd recommend is, firstly, going into Edit, Preferences, and changing the "Size" to "Use at most 1 GB" (default = 10% of your harddrive capacity), and checking the directory it's saving the files into. Then, every now and again, go and clear out that file.

Hope this has helped reduce some of th clutter - sounds quite complex, is def not.
Oh, and Spotify still rocks!
