Great for the odd place you need a map without having to upgrade your proper sat nav.
#5
Cheers OP.

Voted HOT.
#6
thanks, just what i need.
#7
how does it compare to nokia here maps?
#8
I think this and Nokia HERE are the best free GPS maps available. Both are quite quick to lock onto the GPS signal. I can see vast improvements in HERE from the last version.
#9
Installed this a few hours ago, not sure it does turn by turn voice navigation.
#10
I quite google maps navigation at the moment..
they've got it looking quite smart.
if only they could do it fully offline

thanks

Maps will not effect how quickly your GPSr locks on to satellites. The hardware in your device is the main factor.

It's free because it uses OpenStreetMap.

Doesn't seem to do postcode searches and its tricky to even work out where to input your current location
#14
Is this better than Navfree?

Lol. I just downloaded it and gave it a quick test. Not liking the look of the user interface at all. I can say just by the looks of the maps and the UI of Maps.me that it is not as good as Navfree when driving around. Navfree and CamSam plus are the best combo I've found for driving around and not paying an arm and leg. Also it's just so much more intuitive to use sort of like a Tomtom. Whereas with Maps.me I had some trouble trying to figure things out. I'll drive around later this evening to see how it performs but still...really don't like the look of Maps.me.

Thanks Didy.
Also downloading now.
I use Sygic (bought for me by a friend) and, although the navigation part is good, the UI sucks (IMO).
Haven't tried CamSam - I'll give that a go too!

How does this work with only 47MB data of the app? Does it need downloading additional data later on? If I remember my last update on tomtom was 3 GB for all of EU maps.

Edit: My bad! I have to download 545MB of UK map data to start using.

This app has been a God send on my last two holidays.

The navigation is very basic, but was only added a few Weeks ago, so it should improve.

Awesome!!!

Thanks. Just upgraded from the lite version

thx

Okay guys I've been using it since last night to do some local driving. It's actually pretty good in use and only once failed to get me to the right street probably because it's a pretty new area with a lot of work still going on. Anyway the UI is still not that user friendly to me and I still find Navfree better to use when driving. Doesn't work as well as Navfree does with CamSam Plus widget floating above the map to alert you of speed cameras though.Still for something free it does a pretty decent job and I'm keeping it installed on my old Nexus 7 along with Navfree.

here is best works offline too :)

I used Nokia here its excellent gps

Since Nokia HERE maps came out it totally blows all these other offline maps off the table. Here maps has among the best high-quality mapping data available, instead of relying on crappy free crowdsourced OpenStreetMap data that Maps.me and all the other offline map apps seem to use.

Works offline or online, has great navigation routing algorithims that take you the quickest way rather than just the shortest, taking into account the type of roads and live traffic info (if you are online). And all for completely free.

Will give this a try. Thanks
