Metro Bank PLC is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority, charges no foreign exchange loading or cash withdrawal fees on the card that comes with its current account. However, you have to go to one of its eight London branches to get one and apply in person. They claim it takes 15 minutes but allow an hour, note also that they will run a credit check and you need to take along two proof of ID.

You are not required to have your salary paid in to your new current account in order to open one. You can of course if you wish or just pay in enough to cover your holiday spending.

You do not have to pay any cash in while you are in the branch opening your account.

They will make your debit card while you wait!
