Personal finance software Microsoft Money was discontinued as of mid-2009, but Microsoft recently released Money Plus Sunset Deluxe and Money Plus Sunset Home and Business available for free download.

Why?…
The stated reason for these editions is to avoid any ongoing online activation/re-activation issues with old software. Do be aware that the online abilities are disabled (no online quotes, no bill payment, no statement downloads initiated by Money, no data sync with MSN Money online services). There will not be any additional support available from Microsoft, only online self-help and through other users.

Money Plus Sunset Deluxe is designed to be a replacement for expired versions of Money Plus Essentials, Money Plus Deluxe, and Money Plus Premium versions. Money Plus Sunset Home and Business is designed to be a replacement for expired versions of Money Plus Home and Business.

Worth a download?
If you’re okay with staying offline, this version of MS Money might serve as an adequate free personal accounting and tracking software for a while longer. You can still manually import MS Money OFX files from your bank or other financial institutions. The Business versions allow to you print invoices. If you have an older version of Money, this is basically a free upgrade to the last edition sold.
.......

Ok I know that this has been available for a couple of months now, but it was news to me and it's not been posted before.
Remember to set the base currency as British pound.

Edit, the link is incorrect and it won't let me edit it. Here is the proper link

I am using Money 2004 - would this be better than that? Would I be able to import a backup into it to start?

Good find either way - I would be lost without my Money program :)

They are US versions. I don't know whether it'd make a difference for your own specific purposes, but I wanted to point it out.

It imported my data from Quicken 2002 OK, so I would expect it to would read from Money 2004
It is a US version, but I've set the base currency to British Pounds and haven't seen any problems.
Would this be better than Money 2004? If that does everything that you want it to, then probably not since this version doesn't have the online features, unless your version would need activating after a re-install. I believe but am not sure that UK versions of Money don't need activating.

trued it but couldnt import my previous money file as said it was created from a previous version of money! How daft is that!

Non compatibility with older Money data files was the reason why I stopped using MS Money. I have now used GNUCash for a number of years, without any problems, and full compatibilty so far.

think thats how they blew their market lead when people couldnt upgrade. Things went downhill after that (around 2001). Just checked this new version vs my 2001 version and its only cosmetic differences.

Excellent. Thanks OP :D

The last UK version needs a large patch, if you've been using money and reinstall you can't access your files until you install the patch. So yeah I'd quite like a UK sunset version too.

Nice find...
Question:
what is the difference between Deluxe and H&B?
Deluxe supposed to have H&B functions too?

Hi, this isn't expired. It's still free on their website. I imported my exported statements from HSBC & it works fine in £.
