For what it's worth, my local homebase are selling the trees for £2.50, not free... (Camberley, Surrey)...Went down there to check out the discounts on christmas lighting. I don't know what prices were before, but the shaped rope lights (sleighs, santas, etc..) are ranging from £10 to £20. Seemed pretty heavily discounted.. Kids drove me crazy before I managed to buy anything though, might try again tomorrow, sanity permitting.

Anyone know if they have any "rooted" trees?

Yes, we got a 7ft one for free, from the London Kensington branch, we never expect to get anything from from Kensington.!!

Happy Christams everyone.

Went to my local store today on the back of this and the other threads regards 75% and 90% off. I was hoping I was maybe going to be the second mouse as opposed to the early bird! :giggle:

Well I was in luck - there were a couple of crates of cut trees outside the store and a few potted trees. The store also seemed to have more assistants than customers (Anyone else find their towns resembled ghost towns today?) Anyway I went to the garden section and there must have been well over 100 trees there too, and that was what was left - there were 3 members of staff clearing them away somewhere so I asked what was going on.

"We're throwing them out mate, no one wants 'em now and we've got to make way for new stock"

"Great, can I have one?" I enquired

"Sure, help yourself to the one you want before we clear the lot" was the response.

So I go off, collect a trolley from the front of the store, return, select my tree and head towards the exit. Now I had no idea if they would be charge me for this tree (I was prepared to give up to a tenner for it) but was secretly hoping it would be free. I grabbed 3 rolls of wrapping paper too as it was only 49p a roll and on a 3 for 2 offer as well.

Imagine my surprise when they tried to charge me £39.99 for a tree that they were about to throw away

It didn't get any better when they then tried to charge me £1.47 for the 3 rolls of wrapping paper. I know it was a good price but as I explained to them it was clearly marked both on the containing box and on each individual toll that they were '3 rolls for the price of 2'.

"Oh, that doesn't apply now we've discounted them" was the response. :x

I left empty handed! I didn't need the paper anyway, but left the cashier to arrange the return of the tree to the back of the store so that it could be disposed of.

On the way home, I saw a guy in a pub car park selling Christmas trees packing up to go home. Only £4.99 each said the sign - bargain I thought!

Better still, the guy packing up was so peed off, he said he'd only sold a handful of trees all day, was freezing cold, business had dried up and I was going to be his last customer of 2006 so he let me have the tree for FREE

Result!!! :w00t:

Just taking a break from identifying which one of these 160 bulbs from last years lights is bust - only another 60 to go maximum; I just know it'll be one of the last few to test.

Oh, the annual joy of Christmas! :santa:

Did you see the giant inflatable snow globes with polystyrene balls pumped round and round them? They are down to £7.50 in our local branch (from £75). Still not shifting.

Are we still talking about Homebase please?:santa:

Yes. Theres twenty quid boxes of crackers for a fiver, lights, spare bulbs, baubles, all for pennies. I believe you may get 10% off if you wait 'til Jan 3.

I quite liked the 4' rope light tree silhouette with the LCD segment days to christmas countdown - £9.99.... Maybe if I find time tomorrow, and space in the shed to keep till next year :)

Hi Premier, that's a nice post!

Well i work for homebase and can tell you that the staff could not care less whether you buy the last xmas stock or not, so they will not care about discounts. However, the management are desperate to get rid of it, so when you go in, speak to someone from the management team and im sure you will get a good deal, especially on the last few silhouettes and xmas trees, both real and artificial.

Homebase worle (weston super mare) have about sixty real trees free of charge offered a choice this morning...
#21
You should'nt be worrying about real Christmas trees at this stage, you should already have one up and worrying about food shopping ;-)
