One of the best perks of being an O2 customer is their O2 Money Prepaid VISA cards. Unlike just about every other Prepaid card on the market, O2 Money cards are issued completely free of charge and have NO loading or UK transaction fees! Plus, being a prepaid card there is no credit check when you apply. Not an O2 customer? No problem, just order your Free O2 Sim card and as soon as you have your mobile number you are ready to apply for an O2 Money card.

Sadly, although I AM an O2 customer, as I get my broadband from them, you do actually need to have an O2 mobile phone to take advantage of this.

Good deal if you have an O2 mobile, or can be bothered to get a SIM and keep it loaded.

That's a great little freebie. For those hoping to avoid RyanAir fees though, it's a pre-paid Mastercard that is needed.

I have one of these cards, you can only load £100 a day on to it, you can only take out £720 a year from a bank machine, (so if you take £720 out of a cash machine within 4 months you need to wait another 8 months before you can take money from a cash machine again) but you can use it as much as you like to buy in shops or online.

Annual load limit
This is how much you can add to your card in any one year from the date you applied.
£ 1800
Annual cash withdrawal limit
£ 720
Daily transaction limit
£ 720

I've had one of these cards since they were first discussed here last year but I am still unable to load money onto it online. I have phoned customer services over 10 times and they have even sent me a new card but I still can't get it to work online. O2's answer is to top it up at a Paypoint location but as there are none anywhere near me then this is no good.

Good if you can get it to work, useless if you can't

can they not top it up over the phone for you?

^ No, They aid the only way to do it is online or at a Paypoint location. It's a shame really as the card would be really useful for budgeting etc.

Don't see the point of these pre-paid cards (except for Ryanair tickets). You have NO purchase protection like you'd have with a credit card.

Strange, when I looked at their Cash Manager card it said

Will give you an annual load limit of up to £10,000 as long as we can verify your details. If, for any reason, we can't verify your details then your load limit will be £1,800.

Is it this part of their TERMS that stops you qualifying for the £10,000 option?

1.6 In order to load a Card, the Cardholder must be an Active O2 Customer. Subject to clause 1.7 below, an "Active O2 Customer" is:

1.6.1 A current O2 Pay & Go customer who has bought at least £10 airtime in the last three months; or
1.6.2 An O2 Pay Monthly customer who has a current O2 Pay Monthly contract.

1.7 The Cardholder will not be an Active O2 Customer if the O2 mobile phone account of the Cardholder is terminated for any reason or the O2 mobile phone number of the Cardholder is ported to another mobile phone service provider.

I have one and its almost unusable. You cannot open a Paypal account with one (the only reason I got it) and its a nightmare trying to figure out how to load money on it (you have to pretend your someone else giving a gift!)
madness...

You can top up at any PayPoint for free. They are usually newsagents or corner shops and your nearest PayPoint can be found here

http://www.paypoint.com/locator.aspx

The card is good but the loading limit is too low (on the Load & Go card) and you are unable to book hotels with this card - well, I only tried Travelodge though :p

The card your looking at is the 02 cash manager card, the one we are talking about is the o2 money card. :)

What are the benefits of using this card? Does this improve credit rating?

Thank goodness PayPal has at least some protection against scammers

Can this card be used abroad to withdraw cash? I'm particularly thinking could I send the card to a family member overseas so that they could withdraw money in the local currency according to how much I'd topped it up with online here?
#21
Thanks, this will be usefull for travel abroad when I only need an emergency card.

NO, it has no credit file linking as it is a pre payment card not a credit card. If you want to improve your credit rating try a high rate card like Capital One.

+1 never have an issue, I use this for places I would not want to put my good credit card details in to, ie Kids Habbo accounts etc. I just top it up via O2 website with the necessary amount and pay...simple.

Never had a problem. Used in ASDA, Tesco, Esso, BP, Shell, online with Play.com. It works with Chip and Pin and operates under Visa so any outlet refusing its use is being a bit ****.

Handy to use as an emergency card.

Yup, I've already saved way more than the tenner it cost at least :) Any idea how long that "limited" period might be? I assume they have 1 card option without the fee to avoid having to quote the fee in the headline price. I expect RyanAir will move the free option to another type of card if too many people start using the pre-paid Mastercards.

I have this card and its been great. No probs putting money on it and i have booked travelodge before with it.
#26
it wont even let me look at my account online, i can never put money on the card, ive only ever used it once
