#4
Should be able to get the strips on prescription - my brother used to....

Why the cold vote???
#5

#6
Thanks for the pointer kelly_o_fanatic :)

If you're diabetic you should be able to get the lancets and the strips on prescription.

Anyone know what insulin they stated, as its asks 'what you currently use'. My mother is diabetic so im not sure what she uses. I thought i would order one for myself to try out.

wtf?
#14
Hmmm you can be diabetic & on metforming tablets for meds
#15

type 1 - insulin dependant

type 2 - can be treated with either diet alone, tablets (metformin most common) and also insulin when the first two are not enough.

A bit late now... Half one in the morning...

Hope there's some left tomorow!

Strips are usually free, if not immediately then soon. Government (WE) pay for the scripts so that's why they bang these out for buck-shee as someone already said strips are the expensive bit. And if we... the diabetics, use their strips they make money... They don't give a monkey's where it comes from!

As for ordering one to "see what it's like" the word head springs to mind with a stronger word before it!

This is why items like this are not available to people who genuinely need them - rather a selfish attitude, don't you think?

.....and I am an Insulin using diabetic!

I agree, some people ruin it for the people who really need it. Plus - why would anyone WANT to do this? Doesnt make sense to me

Be careful on this free meter. My six year old daughter is diabetic and we got one of these a few years ago as they only need a small sample of blood to run the test.

The company had a problem with the way the meter reads and had to replace all meters.

Details of the recall here

http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/recalls/recall-060705.html

What annoyed me was the FDA recalled in June 2005. Abbott UK notified us in August 2006 :w00t:

Although they sent a new meter is was over a year since the FDA recall. In light of this delay I now refuse to use their products and reverted back to Accu-Chek (part of Roche) which has a far better kids magazine and enables kids to collect meter chips and exchange these for DVD's and other goods.

Thanks for the extra info which shows them as being quite irresponsible back then.

And thats putting it mildly!

This was a class I recall

Class I recalls are the most serious type of recall and involve situations in which there is a reasonable probability that use of the product will cause serious injury or death.

Unforgiveable in my mind which is why they are probably having to revert to giving them away:x

Good information, wasnt aware of that.

The last part should be interesting to people with kids who are diabetic, dont know any myself but will remember that for the future
