Orange Andriod 2.1 Update Available Now!
Monday I was prompted for an update what I thought what andriod 2.1. But it was just to give the option to search for the update.
Today, I've searched for an update through my wifi and it has no allowed me to update to andriod 2.1.
This is a locked orange phone, so i believe we're all good.
Give it a look into when you can.

Yea believe they are, but even 2.2 I don't believe can handle even 2.2. So shall see.

When it's done and the handset restarts you should get a prompt to accept the preparatory OTA update. If it doesn't appear within a few minutes try setting the date a month forward and that should trigger it. Once this update is installed the second major OTA will be available; this is the update to 2.1.
Bear in mind that if you've rooted your ROM you will lose this when you update - and the new version will make getting root back much more difficult. (It is possible, though, if you visit xda-developers and have a read).

Then went into settings and checked the system software updates in 'about phone' and it said a new firmware version was available, and downloaded and installed that in the same way, which is part 2.
I now have my Hero on 2.1 and its like a new phone, the camera is now worth using and sat nav using google maps is awesome, and its all together a whole lot quicker.
Hope this of some use to somebody.

I did hear that the Desire will get froyo ota in the next day or so... talk is that the performance increase is incredible. In some cases up to 400% believe it or not.
press menu > settings > about phone > system software updates, you'll then have another update to download and install. So far you've only installed the first half of the update.
Does it override any of the data on the handset ie txt, images, apps etc?
Would like to make sure before I go ahead.

It didnt on mine, all Apps and Contacts were still there after update. Images and Videos are stored on my memory card which I removed during the update to be on the safe side, so again were untouched.
My Contacts are setup as Google contacts which yours may or may not be, if they are only stored on the phone I can't guarantee it will keep them. You can check by pressing Menu > All programs > People > Menu > View.

Well i try'ed that but it doesn't work matey. tryed on Mobile connection, WiFi connection, tryed changing day, month even year. Nothing. Any advice?

I'm really considering flashing the official HTC Rom on mine rather than waiting ages for Orange to give me their bloated version of it.
Guess I just wait for a while....
