Thanks wanted this for a while and knew it came up free every now and then. Can now stream 1080p to my tablets and phone in the house.

worthless without their premium monthly payment plans. I prefer videostream which is free and does exactly the same things

How is this worthless?
I can watch videos etc. on my phone out and about from my house, as well as in better quality when in my house.
If I had fibre and a better upload speed, I'd be able to watch in better quality out and about sure, but that's not a fault of the software.

It streams nicely to a FireTV too, as well as a number of Smart TVs.

there are many free alternatives offering the exact same functions for FREE what's so hard to understand. Most of which have been posted quite a few times here before. Yeah it's free but the features make it stand out from the competition cost 10£ a month!

Oh I see. Software free service isn't?

Ignore him, it's completely free unless you want a bunch of features most people won't be interested in anyway.

That makes no sense whatsoever and I suspect that you have also misspelt your username.

I highly recommend Plex if you have a smart tv also. Doesn't cost a penny. Download the free software for pc and the free samsung tv app (not sure if other brands have it) and you've got an awesome UI to access all of your msuic/films/pictures from your pc directly on your tv.

Bought this last night! So ticked off.

Videostream? The one which needs a Chrome app on the PC into which you load the vid you want to watch? Which then appears on your android device and might - just might - start the vid playing on Chromecast? A program which may need extra software installed to prevent Windows completely blocking it? Yeah, that's a much more elegant solution than Plex. oO

Thanks 365...good spot. Have some heat.

I prefer xbmc for its ability to spurn libraries and let me browse across all my internal and external HDDs. Though plex offers a better - and more stable - range of plug-ins. If you can do without plugins or a renderer able to handle almost all vid formats, I can also recommend BubbleUPnP for Android. It works like a charm with Chromecast and lets you use your android device to browse across every HDD on your network. It's all free software and limited only by Chromecast's inability to deal with some common vid formats.

Great software and works well and is most certainly not useless without the premium subscription, almost idiot proof to set up and allows me to listen to my ripped CD collection that's stored on my home server on my mobile when away from home or around the house. It was well worth paying the couple of £'s for the Android app so now it's free it's a right result

Thanks op.

Plex the perfect solution....yeah right, I don't think all the people on their forum agree, especially when it doesn't even play common formats out of the box....more XBMC junk ideology....
#18
What's that about? Ask a question and get insulted. How can anyone miss spel their own username. Some idiots on here tonight. Don't know their media server from their blutooth
#19
Niiice! Much better than any of the alternatives imo, those of you using XBMC consider trying

Some nasty rumours in here...

Plex plays everything that you'll need it to, ever, fact.
Plex is free and doesn't ever ask or require you to pay £10 a month to enjoy every feature you will ever need.

I had my five nights at Freddie's flagged as a repost after 5 mins yet this has been allowed to stay on here for over a day why? this is also part of the amazon free apps mega thread.

I use plex all the time more supported with devices than xbmc, dont need plex pass and its under a a few quid a month too. Supports many media types and can install on roku, smart tv, ps3 or ps4( added a few days back) and even the now tv

Been using Plex for a while. Much, much better than XBMC for what I wanted which is a DLNA/UPnP server.

Would recommend it and this app. BubbleUPnP is also very good.

Very frustrating app. Absolutely no guidance on it. I have installed it on tablet and mobile phone and there's absolutely no way of dragging files from the tablet in to the plex app in order to watch them on phone, and vice versa. Wish it would have said that plex on pc is mandatory in order for it all to work.

Pointless waste of time. Uninstalling
