But can't stream mkv files in media player &winap

Anyone know if by installing this whether or not it would conflict with Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP)?

Only ask this because I tried out Tversity (something similar to this) and it messed up the codecs I already had installed when trying to play files directly from the laptop.

Thanks in advance!

My computer is not very powerfull. I take it if it can't play HD media, then there is no point in streaming? I have just been putting files on to a usb stick, and then copying to my PS3, seems to do the trick. 10 mins and your ready to roll...

What this is ideal for is streaming MKV files (which the PS3 doesn't play)

It transcodes the file in real time ( a core2duo is more than adept at handling the transcoding) its does an excellent job and is very simple to use.
#7
I also find this is the best for ps3 streaming as it recognises external hard drives whereas a lot of others don't.
#8
Does it display ALL media on the PS3 or can you hide/deselect certain folders?

you can convert mkv and stream that way.
#10
im using this and its great! transcodes mkv files easy on a amd x2 3800. lol.
#11
I already use this, and if set up correctly (with the right supporting apps to convert files) it is very good and easy to use.

LoL yeah you can designate specific folders to look at (display)
#13
Where can I find a "how to" on using this. Have installed it & already having problems trying transer pictures & audio. :-(
#14
mkv transcoding & auto library updates make this very good indeed.
#15
I use Mediatomb on a dedicated fileserver (a modified Buffalo Linkstation)

nice find voted hot

I found this to be a bit buggy and not work like it should. On my Mac I use MediaLink instead which is a paid-for app, but also integrates into your system preferences and runs in the bar at the top of the screen. Connect360 is the alternative for the Xbox 360, both work a treat.

Since when?

I have Windows 7 and it won't stream MKV. It would need to transcode if it could anyway as the 360 doesn't support it.

Oh and can't see this as a deal. It doesn't save any money, it's not new and has always been free :?
#25
is this better than TVersity then?
#26
Yup, much better than tversity. For a start, you do not have to do a prescan of your media library. This software allows access to your hard disk in real time so anything new appears there.

You do not need to use conversion software like mkv2vob either. The PS3 media server does everything on the fly.

One thing to be aware of tho is if you're wireless, you may struggle to stream a high bandwidth mkv file with DTS sound @ 1.5Mb. I've never tried this, but I'm sure someone will advise if this is an issue.

By the way, if you have a hdmi amp, you have to get this software as it will play DTS 1.5Mb or higher and will really provide a great audio experience.

It's free, so why not give it a try? Works under window 7/vista.

As mentioned above, this isn't a deal so doesn't really belong on HUKD

I cannot believe this has been posted on here!!!

It's over a year old and is well known as a freeware app, as most things are for the PS3!

It's by far the best streamer out there.

Whoever said mkv's don't need encoding with Windows 7 isn't correct, some don't, not all, ALL need remuxing, 99% of 720p's don't need transcoding, around 50% of 1080p's do.

It's not the sound that will cause the bandwidth issues, it's the bitrate of the video.

Your PC will struggle to transcode 1080p video on-the-fly if it's not beefy enough, which is why mkv2vob is still a very viable option (as well as AVCHD support). For those with older, less powerful pc's, i'd recommened sticking to 720p mkv's as you'd have to alter the settings so much to stream 1080p that you may as well get the 720p version.

yeah through wireless it gets abit choppy when youre trying to view a HD 720p clip. after going through all the settings and what not ended up going through a wired route. now everything is good. 1080p clips on the other hand i would need to get a faster computer. amd x2 3800 is just enough for a 720p clip with dts/ac3 audio.

Hey no need to be like that. I dont know what happened i tried to post it under freebies section.

I only put it up here because for me its fantastic and the more people use it the better.

You are quite clearly a stress head and I shall steer clear of you.
#31
That all depends if the video needs transcoding, you may find you can get away with it...

Nah its good info. Some folk get really banal in this place, most of the people though appreciate good bargains/ freebies that are useful.
Have some heat mate.

A freebie should always be hot, unless it can damage your system or cause you harm in any way, which is not the case here. If people don't like them, they should just skip on to the next deal.
Now this post has been expired, for some reason... It should be unexpired and moved to freebies where it belongs.
Voted hot.

Fair enough, I never said it wasn't a good post. I said it wasn't a deal and gave my reasons!

It's a superb freebie ;-)
