Such a great game! When I bought this, it was an 18 (I wasn't... shhh) but you can totally see how times have changed! Good fun just for zapping people with tesla coils.

Back in the day, EA released Red Alert free to download to encourage people to buy Red Alert 3.

This link is the best one i could find to provide official mirrors to download Red Alert - you can download the Allied and Soviet discs using the download links. Each file is 500mb. Really wanted to find the official press-release to back this up, maybe somebody else can?

EA.com (Europe Mirror) - Allied Disc
EA.com (Europe Mirror) - Soviet Disc

Enjoy!

Awesome! Not up to the staggering brilliance of Red Alert 2, but a great game. If I didn't have it already, I'd be all over this. Heat.

Does it play ok on modern computers, or is it unplayably quick?

Dune 2 was probably the game I played the most on my Amiga. Utterly Brilliant. Loved being Harkonnen or whoever they were, getting them missiles and devasters. Also loved how utterly pointless soldiers were.

Dune 2000 released on PC was pretty good too, but not original in any way really.

Ahhh I remember getting this a few days after release and being a bit too young for the age rating. Thus having to wait for a parent to buy it. Also worth a download is the old GTAs as they are also free. More games should be like this were they span such a timeframe to drum up interest in newer titles. I'd even be happy to deal with ads in them for freebees of real classics like RA.

Shame EA have ruined the C&C franchise.

C&C3 was great but RA3 was too simplistic and C&C4 was an insult to fans of the series (they tried cloning DoW2).

Generals 2 could have potential though.

I think that it should play happily on modern computers (I guess there's always compatibility mode). One thing I did notice is that it plays on quite a low resolution!

Does this work? Using Dosbox, I think.

Otherwise, maybe a virtual machine might work?

    Notes on the Download link:
This software contains support for Windows XP/98/Me/95 with installation instructions. This software is not supported by Windows Vista.

This means it will not work in windows7 as well.

    Anyone tried downloading the Patch?
    "Installing the Patch
    Visit ftp://ftp.westwood.com/pub…old and download CCGOLDXPPATCH.ZIP
Unzip the files and copy thipx32.dll into the install directory of the game (default path is c:WESTWOODC&C95). You may overwrite the old version of the .dll file"

My boy had red Alert2 and yuri's Revenge, he couldn't finish one of the missions so I took over and got somewhat hooked on it myself

Its sad, but to me I always treasure the C&C series - yet my love for it goes as far as this game.

The rest after are utter ****.
