Depends on how pedantic you want to be

They used to charge for them, so really, as they are now free, I would say it was a deal. For example, giving away free samples is a freebie IMO

I don't think that it is going to be US only as this has been well reported in various online news websites some of which are in the UK.
Anyhoo, I also think that even if it was US only, they should still work on the UK Pal version (unlike some games like Vegas). The reason I say this is because I have just tried the game under a US user and the prices (for purchasing using the INGAME option) comes up in US dollars so it didn't seem to have a problem there.

I could be wrong though (unlikely).

it's certainly not free on the uk psn after the update... unless we need to wait another week...
DLC for ps3 games are not region frees afaik, at least i haven't come across a game that is.

Lots of stuff is available in the US that Sony don;t bother to give us in the UK. The US site has a games sale for example that we are not getting :x

I know, it really gets my goat especially when the European sales of PS3 are probably saving Sonys' butt at the moment (it sells better here than in the US).
But it isn't just us folks that get treated like cr*p, an Australian friend of mine says Sony strips content out of their games...I guess they deem it to be unsuitable...plus they pay oodles more for their games.

Oh well at least PS3 games in this country are finally coming down in price.

Australia is quite heavy on censorship - perhaps that's the reason for the stripping of content?

That's true.

However, there's no justification for Sony (and others) to keep ripping us off on prices :x

Best thing we can do is simply not buy software at full price, and wait for it to be discounted heavily - which I am sure 99% of people on here do anyway

Avoid online purchases too, as they charge too much, and remove your ability to sell it on used :x

True. I brought WipeoutHD online but haven't brought much else. I don't like the fact that I don't know what I am buying, I wish they would demos of the item before you part with cash.

It is US only at the moment anyway but I just tried downloading with my US PSN user and using a UK Pal version of Resistance 1 (logged in as a UK user) and it worked a treat.

....Don't you just hate a smartarse?

To do it you need to:
1) Create a US user. There are loads of pages about this on the net. Here is a discussion about it : http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26475373
It is very easy to do and gives you access to all the US downloads etc..
2) Switch to your US user. Then download via the store OR via the game. I did the latter.

Switch back to your UK user (don't worry the download will continue) and install the packages when they arrive.

Start Resistance and you should be good to go.

PS. Feel free to give me some brownie points.

I doubt it, I've had an American account for well over a year as well as japanese, Hong Kong and Australian accounts.
I've downloaded Unreal tourny content from the US account and played it on the Euro account no probs.

i hope you dont get banned for it... when i was creating my US account i put the white house address in - it was the easiest one to find on the internet haha

Nope, maybe on other platforms but not on PSN.

I'm sure under the terms and conditions they could close your US account but I can't see how they would find out. I've had to use a US account in the past because I've brought an import game (Vegas 2) and the UK DLC didn't work. Sometimes you buy import games unknowingly, so it is unfair to prevent access to the DLC.

To be honest Sony probably like you to create more PSN users it as it shows there are more PS3 users than there actually are, they are always shouting about this figure.

Thanks just about to create a US account

Just a heads up that these maps are now free on the EU/UK PSN and not just the american one. For those worried aboot being naughty.
