-Revised 20th May 2014- For those having issues getting the emulator to open or rom to run, run through the steps again.
Play Nintendo 64, Playstation One, Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, Megadrive, Game Boy Advance and more on your Iphone/Ipad or Ipod touch.
You won't need to Jailbreak your device.
Supported devices - Ipad 2 or above or Iphone/Ipod touch 4 or above. Ios6/7 required.
To install - Follow these three steps, read them thoroughly and make sure you understand what you need to do before attempting to install Retroarch.
1) Open the deal link on your device,
2) Click on Retroarch, you will be prompted with a message on how to install, proceed. The app will instantly appear on your Home screen and begin to install, whilst downloading/installing you now have approx 10 - 15 seconds to open the settings of your device and change the date to anytime in the year 2012, again do this before the app fully installs. If you don't do it in time, you may see an error message and Retroarch icon may appear greyed out, subsequently the app won't run. If this is the case, hold your finger on the app to uninstall, change your date back to auto and run through this step again until the Retroarch icon is no longer greyed out (fully installed). If the app installed ok, it won't be greyed out, proceed to the next step.
3) Run Retroarch at least once, once opened don't forget to change your devices date back to automatic or you will have issues running other apps, such as SSL error messages. Unfortunately you may need to change the date back to to 2012 each time you run Retroarch in order to open it successfully, but once open the date can be set to auto.
"Where do I find Roms?" Google is your best friend.
"Ok, I've found a rom website, how to I go about downloading a rom to importing it into the Emulator?"
First of all locate a webpage with a direct rom link. Again, just like when you installed Retroatch, importing roms requires the date to be changed back to 2012. As far as I know this is to allow the folder Retroarch reads from to be written to - otherwise it is locked. Once you initiate a rom download you will be asked which App you want to open the file in, select Open in - "RetroArch". Give it a few seconds (give or take, depends on your connection) to download. Retroarch will automatically pop up with the newly downloaded rom in view, click on the rom to run.
Remember, only download a rom if you own the original.
Blurb from the Dev - "RetroArch is a powerful engine that allows you to Play games (retro and more current ones). RetroArch is an open-source project that makes use of a powerful development interface called Libretro. Libretro is an interface that allows you to make cross-platform applications that can use rich features such as OpenGL, cross-platform camera support, location support, and more in the future.
Libretro and RetroArch are perfectly suited for creating games and (in the near future) apps leveraging the features of mobile phones and tablets.
RetroArch and the Libretro API has above all proven itself to be a very capable API for emulators, and this package includes an overwhelming amount of open-source emulators to use. Most of these have been vetted by the original authors and have their consent. In the instances where they are not, all effort has been taken to ensure there are no license problems."
