Samsung Hope raise £1 for every mile you walk or cycle

1982john1982john

Probably should go in freebies but no one looks in there...

Quite simple you can raise a lot of money if you installed this.

I cycle a 100 miles for work alone!

20 The Service will record distances as you run or walk, but the Promoter accepts no responsibility for any inaccuracies that may occur as a result of issues with the GPS system being out of range or atmospheric or other conditions. Mileages shown are indicative only.

21 For every mile recorded by the Service during the Promotion Period, subject to a maximum mileage of 26 miles per day per Participant during the Promotion Period, Samsung will donate £1 to one of the charities listed below (up to a total maximum donation of £667,000 or $1 million). Although mileage run will be recorded in near real time, the actual amount to be awarded on behalf of each Participant will be calculated at the end of the Promotion Period. Money will be awarded to each of the three (3) charities listed below:

An IOC (International Olympic Committee) designated charity
Kids Company
International Inspiration

Obviously you just leave it on till you reach the 26 then turn off, you don't even need to go for a walk or cycle. Most likely it will register you moving around the house as it picks you up at the front or back and count that as 20m or so :)

John I presume you mean a week?

I used to do 120 miles a week when I was 18, over 5,760 miles in a year as I eventually bought a car for £75. Think my right hip is paying for my energetic early life.

26 miles per day per participant is the cap.

oh and screw them for not supporting nokia phones. I think this should be in freebies and competitions, you have the chance to win tickets to the Olympics too.

Had this for a while, it's not the most accurate gps logger as it sometimes gives different distances for the same route which can be annoying if you've done a little bit more to get over the next mile mark. (Only full miles are credited, part miles don't add up).

It also seems to think that I'm ranked number 49 today, which I find hard to believe.

great idea shame the app isn't available for other phones besides samsung, i think

Shame I didn't spot this sooner as I've been training for a 10k that's tomorrow...then I plan on taking a break from running, I'm knackered lol

Still, got the daily dog walking to do :)

Downloaded this the other day. Worth noting they seem to only credit you for complete miles? so dont stop your run at like 1.9 miles.

Just completed mile 10 this morning.

    Heat added.

How the fk is this a freebie ? You don't get the money!

freebies aren't always about you getting money, it doesnt cost you and the money goes to charity

where would you like it put, in a deal, where it still doesnt cost anything, then someone would complain "it should be in freebies" ?

    Should be in Misc

No it should be here. We have had charity threads here before, and no matter how you look at it, Samsung are providing a free service, it's just that you don't directly benefit from it.

Anyway, good deal. A little bit cheeky with the wording there; they don't check the total amount raised until the end of the campaign, so if they reach the limit at any point, the campaign will continue to give them the most PR exposure. Still, can't blame em I guess.

I've raised £50 so far and im in the top 1000 donations so I dont think they're going to get anywhere near the £667k
