Until you can completely remove all communication of data to Microsoft like you can with Windows 7 I won't be touching Windows 10... Microsoft gold partner.... I wonder what else the software does..

Running stand alone makes no difference. You allow it to run scripts which change settings on your computer. They are a Microsoft partner company. Therefore I would imagine they have agreed with Microsoft what the software will and won't do. Nothing completely turns off the spying. Microsoft will still receive info about programs you run etc. Your shopping habits etc. Personally I'm not cool with that stuff and I'm not cool with Microsoft installing updates without my say so. I'm sure we have all experienced that one update that screws your computer.... Every day turns into a lottery when you boot your computer.

I think most people appreciate the effort (including me). There are one or two who just like to turn it into a 'mine is better than yours' debate which you should just ignore.

Yes you can but as you said that's pretty stupid. Security updates good... Unnecessary driver updates.... Bad... I'm waiting for the targeted popup adverts based on your browsing history to start. I'll be sticking with Windows 7 till 2020 and then migrate to Linux.

because you bite back so many times? people are free to their opinion and you could've just ignored it instead of trying to one-up them constantly. If you can't tolerate being trolled, don't feed them.

I'm not that bothered about turning off *everything* as I'm sure it will … I'm not that bothered about turning off *everything* as I'm sure it will break things you don't want to break. I stopped the apps I could, p2p uploads over the internet, etc just to speed things up. However if windows occasionally says 'whats up?' to some random anonymous server for a split second every week I'm not bothered.

Unfortunately it's not as simple as sending at "what's up" to a server once a week. If it was, this storm wouldn't have brewed up in the first place because all versions of Windows phone home to some degree.

Windows 10 collects data for virtually every single thing you do on your computer and where you go, even just clicking on Start sends calls to Microsoft and Bing. Exactly how much data it collects, how personal it is and how it's used, Microsoft won't say.

Whether you are OK with that is personal choice, but most users are not happy about the sheer level of it. And you can only reduce it, not turn it off, which is why tools like this exist.

What I really find funny with the "MS is spying on us" type comments, is that all are most probably using Google, Facebook and Chrome on a daily basis and they do far more spying, as they track what you are doing and post targeted advertisements to your browser.
Google has the largest data farm in the world, I wonder what they do with it?

Why would you use an operating system in which you have to install third party hacks to get it to function how you want it to?

This is before we even get to all the spying and security vulnerabilities

    People are crazy

Brilliant! Couldn't agree more about Faceache. Personally, I use dual and multi boot machines with a split between M$ and Linux in various flavours which allows me to keep tabs on things. However, I realise this isn't within everyone's capabilities (or they just can't be 'arrissed) so third party software like this isn't necessarily a bad thing for the average user.

I had Avast running and everything was fine, but somehow WD got installed and deactivated Avast. The annoying thing is, WD doesn't even show up in the uninstall list and my PC has been having all sorts of problems since (Chrome takes about 15 minutes to actually get up and running now for example. Not sure if it's related).

    Try the last option first:

Agreed. No reason to go the Win 10 route, people should steer clear. Microsoft might get the messsage they can't shaft everybody any way they want.
If for whatever strange reason you need/want to move away from Win7, you have Win8.1
But Win7 is still the choice of most professionals who know what they are talking about.

Win10 is not just spyware, but also surprisingly ugly.

There are so many of these solutions around and you could do it yourself if you idiots knew how to use powershell. Here, try another solution - does the same job! And the devs are not in bed with M$.

Because using powershell makes you smart.......or most likely able to google......genius.

Why would I bother when I have a simple application that would do the job, unless I'm looking to do across a network and would probably use group policy anyhow.

At the end of the day why do people think Microsoft gave everyone the opportunity to upgrade FOC to Windows 10....thats right your personal usage data is more valuable to them than your one off payment for an operating system... Windows 7 is the last Microsoft OS I'll be using. I'm sure I'm not alone in that thought
