Software Licence Keyfinder- completely free

I had to re-build my machine and I had the original software CD's but I couldn't find the Product keys, which were on the original CD sleeves. I know there are ways to look in Windows Registry, but that can get complicated for novices.

I found the Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder software very easy to use and install, it's the super-easy way to find lost product keys and lost serial numbers for operating systems like Windows XP and Windows Vista and for many other programs and games.

You'll need the original product key or serial number that came with your program before you can reinstall the software!

I hope this helps anyone who finds themselves in the same situation.

Edit: It may register a false positive on some antivirus suites

I get the same result too for keyfinder.v1.51.zip as technically it could be classed as a 'hacktool' although for correct purposes it's fine.

The only downside is that it may register a false positive on some antivirus suites.

I use Norton 360 v3 and it also came up saying the site is unsafe.

Good post! No virus - buy some proper AV Software. Might I suggest Kaspersky!
#9
JellyBean is undoubtedly useful but does trigger some AV products.

If that's the case on your PC you could try Belarc Advisor which reveals the product keys and more.

"Proper" AV/security products WILL be triggered by this product. Does Kaspersky not?
#11
When you think about what the application is doing it's common sense that it will trigger some Anti Viruses as it is potentially dangerous if it was combined with other malicious software it could technically steal information, however MJB isn't, thus safe and used by quite a lot of people.

Might help a bit: http://www.snapfiles.com/help/av-info.html

why? because it's a product the software companies don't like...that's not a sufficient reason too flag it as unsafe

Most AVs have false positives, just some are a bit over protective. Still a pain in the 'arris though!

I can't see why people install software to find licences anyway :) There is a free, non-install (standalone) program which does the job, and it is a tiny download. It is called SiW with this you can find all the keys to installed programs and also passwords. Loads of other stuff too.
Above link is the free download, but here's the page , choose the standalone English version bottom right.

I've used MJB several times & it's very good.
I like the look of SIW though . . . rep added for that tip.

No, because it is retriving product keys from within the registry.

A potentially bad thing to happen if a cracker is using it for example.

In case anybody else was wondering.
II. Defining 'Noob'
Contrary to the belief of many, a noob/n00b and a newbie/newb are not the same thing. Newbs are those who are new to some task* and are very beginner at it, possibly a little overconfident about it, but they are willing to learn and fix their errors to move out of that stage. n00bs, on the other hand, know little and have no will to learn any more. They expect people to do the work for them and then expect to get praised about it, and make up a unique species of their own. It is the latter we will study in this guide so that the reader is prepared to encounter them in the wild if needed.
