Stop Spam Texts Should Stop those PPI's etc

bowyert1bowyert1

Forward texts to 7726 (spells 'spam'). If you get spam texts (ie, from unknown senders), don't reply 'stop' - it shows you're real. Forward the text to 7726 (87726 on Vodafone). If enough people do that, it can be blocked. FULL help: Stop Spam Texts.

Who invented the iPhone! You can't forward text messages on whilst easily including the number....

For anyone interested O2 just reply "your spam complaint has been noted and forwarded to our customer care operation. Thank you".

Didn't know about this.. thanks! A lot of smartphones can block unwanted calls/texts but this is worth doing too if it perhaps leads to the spam companies getting blacklisted by the networks

I tried a few years ago to stop unwanted calls on my home phone it does not work i still get the calls, it says you can report them so i did but nothing gets done. not worth the hassle of doing this.

It is if you ever want to go abroad and take your phone as they make a charge for you receiving such things whilst abroad

but those with free texts allowance would be charged forward to a short code as most networks don't include them in allowance?

Hit edit, select the message(s) you want to forward and hit Forward (bottom right)

If you really want to block these spam messages, call up your network provider and ask them to block the number from their end. I somehow managed to sign up to a text service and spoke to a T-Mobile rep who blocked the number from their end. Not getting those messages now.

Strange one this ..... how do you know it's blocking 95% of spam calls if you are not receiving them?

For all you know, it may be doing nothing - as you still get spam calls!!

Its ok forwarding it on O2 but how do they know the original number that it originated from ?

O2 don't want the original number and certainly don't want a text message forwarded that looks like you're forwarding an email. If you took a minute to actually read about what the O2 service does, they use the number *within* the message (usually written like REPLY TO 66666 or TEXT STOP TO 11111) or any other number inside the message. If you forward the message with the original number (which can be spoofed) this will just lead to false positives and incorrectly flagged spam.

On an android phone using aFirewall blocker seems more useful for text and calls, with the option to block number withelds it's useful when your network tells you they can't do anything without the number. I set it so it doesn't notify me, and I'm not inconvenienced at all.

Just text the word scam over and over again to the landline number (as long as you dont pay for text messages) that will cause them issues as an automated service will read the message out to who ever picks up at the call centre.

been on TPS for years, but occasionally someone chances it. a month or so ago got a call at middle of night. i didnt say a word, the person said heh-low. i said in a scary calm voice that sounded like it could escalate – are you kidding me?! do you know what time it is? she put the phone down before i could go on. lol

Registration appears to be free but the Silentgard call blocker unit costs £59.98 inc p+p! So does this work or is it just another scam?
