This software is used more often than not to download illegal software - therefore I insist that you don't download it.

Insist?
As the OP said, this is used for many legal uses. I have used it to download a copy of CentOS for my server.

My thought exactly. Software is well behind movies, TV & music in the download stakes.

Bittorrent is one of the easiest download methods for authorities to trace. Please never use it illegally and tell anyone using it to stop. Its download/upload methods are so dirty they leave traces everywhere of what you are and have been doing.

This software is used to download the latest porn flicks, the latest software, the latest console and PC games, music, films, and so on.

I insist you don't use it, it's most illegal.

Especially don't use it for what I meantioned before. Don't visit websites like m*n*n*v*, p*r*t*b*y, p*rnt*rr*nt and the like.

No seriously, there's loads of porn and games and entertainment out there and it's all illegal to download. People...move along now, you shouldn't use this stuff.

But..for the purposes of information wealth, I thank the op and will be downloading the freebook ;)

Your comment makes as much sense as saying I insist you don't drive a car - cars more often than not are driven illegally above the speed limits. ;-)

Bittorrent is just a technology, what you use it for is entirely up to you. In one persons hands a baseball bat is a sports tool, in another its a lethal weapon, do we ban baseball bats??

You "insist"???

I don't really appreciate being preached to by you or anyone else for that matter, as a grown man I'll make my decisions for myself thanks all the same.

Yes and they are.

Doesn't Peerguardian offer some protection for the 'Knock Off Nigel's' that are being warned on here (by the bittorrent police) of impending imprisonment :w00t:

Yes and they are.

They are trying to take down the bittorrent trackers like the******bay, but they're failing. I wouldn't recommend piracy, but I can tell you that those who do it are very safe.

EVERYONE I know does it. Why would anyone want more than 2MB/S internet without BTorrent?

Moving on.................:whistling:

I agree. I don't think anyone has that many photos or that many legal mp3s. Apart from backups and warez, there are not many uses for a terabyte drive!

Perhaps someone could point me in the direction of the UK law that makes downloading films/tv/music illegal?
The Copyright, Design & Patents Act states that importation of copyrighted material (eg downloading from abroad) for personal use is not a breach of copyright. It also states that you cannot breach copyright by copying a copy. Thus it is a breach to copy (including uploading) an original work, but not to download a copy of that work. This may explain why there have been no successful prosecutions for downloading such content.
You may think the law is wrong but that is what the Act says.
#26
I wonder if they'll ever be a law about hit and running on p2p networks!
#27
Don't rely on peerguardian it's not even worth installing.

I'm one of those people with 2TB of storage :) . . .it's for all my photos :whistling:

easier than a direct download? i dont think so. and what other forms of download are there... http, ftp, Torrents, perhaps..

sure, if the authorities were a peer, they can see the ip adresses of all those downloading, but if not, they've got a lot of bits flying back and forth between people to assemble before they have some incriminating evidence, and thats without considering data encryption between clients, as well a proxies.
